Urban greenhouse wedding: Leah + Matt

DIY Greenhouse wedding

OK guys. We’ll try to be succinct here so we can get to the photos from Let’s Frolic Together, but we’ve gotta point out a few things about these two: Leah’s a floral designer at Bespoke Occasions, who just so happened to fall in love with a guy who’s last name is Bloom. Too good. TOO good! The day itself involved a perfect blend of both their styles too: she’s all flowers and he’s into woodworking. Hence the urban greenhouse concept: greenery, warmth, and one gorgy San Diego dinner party.

They’d thought about a backyard wedding, but real life factors like a noisy dog next door + weather had them looking elsewhere. And with Moniker Warehouse they could even rent it for two days. Leah says, Being able to be a wedding vendor for myself, and control every little aspect on Friday, and just be a bride on Saturday was the perfect solution to my particular brand of crazy… With our venue being so centrally located, we had people showing up all day to help. I had my own ‘visuals team’!

Would ya believe that her original flower order was lost?! She ended up going with an assortment of greenhouse-inspired fauna that you don’t often see in bouquets—banksia, pin cushion protea, grevillea, amaryllis, fern, nandina, smoke bush, and an airplant. More inspo on her Pinterest.

I know that I should say that our ceremony, and the moment we were married was the most memorable part of the day, but all of that was a blur. A wonderful blur, but, a blur nonetheless. The biggest highlight for me, and one of the biggest for Matt, was the moment we opened up our reception to our guests. Matt and I knew what it looked like, and after spending so many hours planning and implementing the decor, it was pretty wonderful to hear the reactions of our guests, as they walked through the doors. We stood at the threshold, watching the faces of all of our friends and family, feeling pride at the magic we had built together. For Matt, the experience of revealing the space to our guests was matched only by the first look. There was so much anticipation!

Matt built the greenhouse ceremony façade (now in their backyard)
• 130 napkins dyed yellow
• Collected vintage glassware
• Table numbers + seating chart
• Music playlist (takes longer than you think!)
• Keg-turned-water dispenser
•The cheese wheel cake
• Floral design, of course!

Oh and this killer cheese wheel cake? They didn’t have the budget for all those wheels, so Leah actually crafting the bottom tiers from plaster and Styrofoam. So clever!
