Greece honeymoon, part 3

July 20, 2015

Aaand, onto our third and final destination, the ever-so-famous Santorini. Hope you’ve enjoyed the trip through Greece thus far. If you missed parts one and two, well, you must go back for a peek.

Santorini is pure magic. And quite the architectural feat with its cliffside buildings, built into the sky. No shortage of white here…the crisp color makes a beautiful accent for the deep blue below.

We stayed in two towns on Santorini island – Oia (pronounced “ee-yah”) and Imerovigli. Each felt different from the other. Oia is a bit busier, lots of people, restaurants, shops, etc. Both boast unbelievable views that beg you for a photo. Wandering through the windy streets was one of our favorite parts of being here.

A trip down 200 stairs to Ammoudi Bay for lunch is a must! No, you don’t have to walk back up.. you can take a donkey!

Greek food is superb.. lots of fresh seafood, salads, and of course cheese and plenty of garlicky tzaziki. Our favorite restaurants in Oia were Pelekanos as well as Pitogyros (best gyros and cheap!) for lunch, 1800, Petros, and Ambrosia for dinner. And you can’t miss Lolita’s for gelato, to end the night.

Right across from our hotel was this lovely little juice/coffee/ice cream bar called Passagio, where we went every day for a fresh juice concoction to cool us down.

Mr and Mrs Smith’s Canaves Oia Suites was a hotel dream come true, and the perfect spot for honeymooners. A luxury boutique hotel carved into the cliffside, with private plunge pools overlooking this view below:

I could have stayed here for hours, I tell you.

White, on white, on white! Lots of little pops of color too.

We thought we had seen it all, and then we got to Imerovigli and checked into our hotel Kapari Natural Resort. That mountain, that water. Whuuut?!

Cave dwelling at its finest. This was the perfect spot to end our trip. We ate most of our meals at this hotel when we found out that it is known in the area for its amazing chef. Many locals make nightly reservations here, so the restaurant gets quite busy. I mean, how cool is this place?

If you can peel yourself away from the pool, you can walk about 20 minutes to a small town called Fira. Lots of windy little paths, shops and gelato spots.

One of the highlights of our stay in Imerovigli was hiking Skaros Mountain. A quick (unless you stop to take a million photos) and amazingly scenic hike and you are on top of the world.

Whew, what a trip! I’m so glad to be able to share this with you all. It truly is a magical country, and a trip we will never forget.
