DIY Ace Hotel Palm Springs wedding: Mike + Nair

July 28, 2015

Mike + Nair wanted their wedding to have an elegant but relaxed vibe and who better to pull that off than Hello Gem (design + florals) and YEAH! Weddings (video + DJ + photography by Jennifer Emerling)? Their talents paired with décor from small shops and artists sprinkled throughout Ace Hotel Palm Springs = one heckuva wedding weekend with relaxed elegance written all over it.

On their wedding favors… Mike and I love to cook and host friends and family for dinner, so our wedding favor was a homemade rub made of 10 spices. We even had friends come and help us with making massive batches of rub. The best part has been receiving pictures from our guests of all the tasty food they have made with the rub.

Wouldn’t change a single thing about this gorgy bouquet! It had all the best: ranunculus, anemones, free spirit garden roses, succulents, Icelandic poppies, etc.

Oh, and Nair’s grandfather built their arch and shipped it from Puerto Rico.

Their must-haves in a wedding venue: space for 134, easy going, desert vibe, perfect for socializing, multi-day, multi-event, and allowed their dog Amicus. The welcome drinks, taco party, celebration, reception, brunch and even the school bus rental (to hike Joshua Tree of course), all happened at Ace.

Mike says, We had just over seven months from proposal to wedding day. We waited about a week to start planning. The first 10 weeks were exclusively planning, with the first two to three focused on securing a venue. Lining up the venue provided us with concrete answers to a number of key variables, making it significantly easier to plan within the provided constraints (e.g. max guest count, requirements to use venue’s catering, etc). Securing a venue early also allowed us to send out our save the dates within 8 weeks of getting engaged.
