Elopement in an ancient farming village in Portugal

Did you catch the chic summer wedding in Ibiza we shared this morning? Now we’re on to southern Portugal, thanks to Muza Weddings Concept and Adriana Morais Photography, who were all about slowing down and appreciating life, nature, and each other. The team tells us, If you’ve been to Alentejo, you’ll know that this place can give you a unique and extraordinary feeling of peace and mindfulness. Time to breathe it all in…

São Lourenço do Barrocal is a hotel located in a vast estate that has been in the same family for over 200 years. It was an ancient little farming village where about 50 families lived. Nowadays with no changes on its original essence, this luxury hotel is surrounded by ancient holm oaks, olive groves, vineyards and many “barrocais” (the huge outcrops dotting the landscape), which represent some of the most monumental natural features of Alentejo. The only “new” added buildings created from scratch were the wine house, the biological vegetable garden and the pool, which were designed by the distinguished Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto Moura, owner of the 2011 Pritzker Award.

The team wasn’t kidding… This whole space does put our minds at ease. Ahhh.

The lovely thing about an elopement is that you + your partner can enjoy every single moment together, right?

We used very traditional and simple elements with a touch of a retro decor. For the flowers we wanted to show our brides that they can make unusual choices and still have a gorgeous bouquet, with the most beautiful colors and shapes. It totally completed the bride’s look! The bright pink, the orange and petrol and dry blues were in the main palette that inspired us to create all this mood, from the flowers to the graphic design and the cake. The bride’s dress had a lacy and romantic skirt with a simple spaghetti strap top, which she paired with a handmade hairpiece. All of this translated her spirit perfectly. The groom was looking very handsome with some irreverent accessories that made all the difference, such as the customized handmade bow tie.

Fun fact about Portugal: It’s one of the sunniest places in Europe. So while this is fab wedding inspo for spring here in the States, you could pull this off in many different times throughout the year, there. Sweet!

This elopement was inspired on the concept of a simple country life, which can be really different from most of the everyday cosmopolitan life of many couples. Sometimes we don’t have time or make an effort to stop in time and just appreciate the most simple and genuine one-on-one moments.

So true. Congrats to the team below on such a thoughtful, intimate wedding…
