A handmade Texas wedding: Michelle + Haden

Categories   Real Weddings

Can art studios be 2012’s venue trend? Quickly scroll down until you see their reception venue and you’ll see what we mean. Michelle + Haden wanted their wedding to be a not too fussy or formal, but still elegant and pretty, with a slight Texas twang celebration. Their palette of pale pink, slate gray, light blue and poppy red worked harmoniously with the extravagantly unique draped fabric installation work of Molly Gochman.

Michelle’s sister, the graphic designer behind their wedding invitations, established a font and logo with their initials that they used throughout the wedding – from thank you notes to the the design they painted directly on their dance floor.

Their nieces played Canon in D (Pachelbel’s Canon) as a violin duet for the processional.

This is such a fun idea – they had a New Orleans Brass Band lead their guests into the reception and had everyone dancing immediately–before the toasts & dinner.

Keeping with the soft color palette, they placed chrysanthemums, dahlias, Delphinia, and snow berries in various glass bottles. And below is the unique fabric installation by artist Molly Gochman.

Above are their initials that Michelle’s sister designed and painted on their dance floor that Haden built! We’re curious to know what they ended up doing with that huge dance floor after the wedding…

The music: first dance: “That’s Where It’s At” by Sam Cooke, father/daughter dance: “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan, mother/son: “Mama’s don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys” by Willie Nelson.

How was the band? I have been searching for a brass band as my roots are from NOLA myself. Were they great? Did you have to pay for their travel on top of their booking fee? Thanks for the help!

Ann on Jan 19, 2012

the dinner setting is fantastic.

Michelle W on Jan 19, 2012

Hi Kelly, The band, fortunately, was local, having relocated from NOLA, and they played for about 30 minutes beginning with our entrance at the reception. It was really extraordinary and I would highly recommend. Everyone was dancing right away.

My wife had arrived from your South, so I what food was in good hands. His fee was 110 guineas, and that with the hotelkeeper was 30 guineas. Good fishing ended up being to be had in this river all of the year long, during flood-time, so when water was clear fish could possibly be seen taking the bait at the depth of 10 feet.
