Modern tropical wedding inspiration on a ferry boat

Tropical vibes in the PNW, whaaat? And on a ferry too? Talk about unique. For this wedding inspiration, The Wedding Project + Shelby of Something Minted Photography wanted to bring the tropics to their Puget Sound venue, the Point Ruston Ferry. No surprise—the contrast makes for the perfect match!

The ceremony location was set on the highest point of the ferry and overlooked the bay—the view is nothing short of extraordinary! Gather Design Company placed various palms and flowers around the top deck for a feeling of paradise using those grown right here in the PNW! She also attached palm leaves to aisle chairs and the bridal bouquet + head piece were full of big statement blooms.

The escort sign says ‘find your island’ and each table corresponded to a different local island. Cute!

The bamboo bar cart was stocked with beverage ingredients and tropical garnishes. The signature cocktails complimented our surroundings: the bride’s drink was Ferrytail, a custom cocktail, (aka Blood Orange Mai Tai) and the groom’s beverage of choice was Ferryale (but not your average ale, Scuttlebutt, a PNW brewed beer!) The Ferrytail napkins were bright in pink and hand lettered to read “Put The Love In The Coconut” & the bar menus were drawn on giant palm leaves! The drinking glasses were wrapped in smaller palm leaves adorned with the script “Mr.” and “Mrs.”… We say all drinks should be wrapped with a palm!

They kept it refined with gold flatware, but added fun deets like palm printed coasters.

Last but not least, gotta hear about those desserts… The menu from Ma Boulangerie consisted of two cakes, (coconut and orange vanilla) macarons and cream puffs. The cakes were watercolor painted to be light orange and a blushing pink, which did nothing but complement those white ferry walls. We incorporated fresh fruit to embrace color and the overall tropical vibe. The evening was as sweet as those pineapple-guava popsicles!
