An intimate desert-chic sustainable elopement

November 17, 2020

During a time where intimate weddings are a pivot that many couples have been forced to choose, this diverse group of wedding artists focused on embracing the intimate nature of an elopement, emphasizing the beauty in the details.

Because COVID has affected the wedding industry in so many ways, they also wanted to inspire couples with unique ideas around safety. Planning a small wedding during a pandemic is no small feat, so they conveyed mindful ideas and creative safety details for couples. We incorporated a sanitation station— hand sanitizer and custom “Spread Love Not Germs” masks from Mod Party.

We’re so thrilled to have a group of BIPOC owned-businesses on the blog today to share their ideas with you!

We wanted to incorporate as many sustainable pieces into our design as possible, showing modern-day couples how to invest in their day with recyclable decor items.

Being in California, we are constantly reminded of our impact on this Earth and we wanted to be mindful of that. We made use of drought-resistant plants, local California foliage + flowers, and used as many potted plants (that can be used and reused again and again) as possible. Ji, with JK Design Cal, used vegan leather for the invitation suite and signage.

We referred to this shoot as “Modern Desert Chic”— pulling elements from the desert with modern touches. We wanted it to feel natural and from the Earth— colors, prints, everything was chosen with intention. Our goal was to transport viewers to a desert elopement destination and inspire couples to play with color, texture, and patterns. Not everything has to match or be perfect–there is beauty in the imperfections, juxtapositions, and asymmetry. We hope this shoot reminds couples that although their wedding vision might not be the exact same, they can still prioritize the unique details that make it their own.
