Modern Sarah Seven wedding dress

We always like to send you guys into the weekend inspired (you saw the vid we shared earlier, yeah?), and this wildflower wedding shoot Maggie of Type & Title designed to celebrate the launch of her custom invitation studio sure fits the bill. It’s not only full of modern, graceful details, but M also spilled her garden wedding tips for those of you planning. Brides-to-be, are you out there?

Thanks to Whiskers and Willow Photography for sharing!

Maggie says, I gave our florist Jill of Layered Vintage the phrase “wildflower romantic” and as usual she hit it out of the park. Amanda of Thorne Artistry gave our model Sadie the perfectly undone, romantic hair and makeup to complement her Sarah Seven gown The Dress Theory. Aly of Luna Wild Design brought in tabletop goods from Hostess Haven (who always seems to have exactly what you need for any given party) and styled our goods to perfection.

OK, so you probably want to know how to snag a bouquet like this for your own modern garden wedding. Maggie says to ask for texture + the unexpected:

There are so many incredible options when it comes to flowers, and although we love roses and peonies as much as the next girl, ask your florist to add in some unexpected wildness. Yarrow, kale, astilbe, seeded eucalyptus and unripe blackberries are some of our faves, along with greenery foraged from your yard or venue. Those statement blooms will still shine, but they’ll feel fresh paired with differently-textured elements.

Tip #2: Don’t neglect day-of paper goods.

Escort displays, place cards, table numbers and signage make it easier to communicate with guests (especially if your ceremony + reception is at the same venue). We’re fans of a full, pretty tabletop with a lot of decor for your guests to take in, and a calligraphy place card or personalized menu can really feel special and personal when they reach their seat. At an outdoor wedding, pieces with textured paper (like deckle-edge cotton) and watercolor touches feel really natural.

Wedding signage

With a garden wedding, you can really focus on select personal details to enhance an already beautiful setting. Maggie says, Whether that’s a romantic tabletop, hand-lettered signage, a unique installation or vintage rentals that complement the space, figure out the stand-out design elements you care about most and make them happen first. When overwhelm hits you in the last few weeks before the big day, you’ll already have your must-dos taken care of, and the freedom to say “never mind” to less important tasks.
