Happy Halloween, all! We are so, so excited to wrap up October with this moody fall barn wedding coming to us from Jamie Mercurio Photography and Emily Elizabeth Events. Amy + Keith have the cutest love story (so don’t forget to scroll *all* the way through!) and their woodland-themed wedding was a true labor of love for their 47 guests to experience. Each and every DIY detail is so thoughtful, and the venue quite srsly the stuff of dreams. You just have to see for yourself, K?

These two sure know a thing or two about fall style. He’s sporting Banana Republic + she’s adorned in ModCloth:

Amy explains, A beautiful white farm house pitched at the end of a rural dirt road with a towering gray cedar barn was a fantastic setting for spending my summer and holiday breaks growing up. So when it came time to choose a venue, the rural 1797 establishment, adorned with memories from not only my past but over two centuries of Mainers, was the making of a dream wedding. We wanted to escape the ordinary and create a beautiful adventure that bridged fantasy and rustic themes. At the same time, I wanted to create an event that was personal, a tapestry of what we love and cherish. To accomplish this, I chose Emily Elizabeth Events to plan my wedding with her purist eye for details and incredible ability to create a fluid motif throughout an event.

Emily built an A-team for my photographer, caterer, hair and makeup designer, rentals, and florist. Her end-product was stunning. The day before my event, she was with me all day, helping to organize items/rentals and running through the next day’s schedule with the whole family. The day of, she was there bright and early setting up the ceremony and attending individually to each loose end, making sure nothing was overlooked. During the wedding day, I kept hearing over and over that my wedding was the most beautiful and most unique wedding my guests had ever attended.

When I received the sneak peaks from Jamie of Jamie Mercurio Photography, I swear I could feel that morning’s chill again and feel the damp mist on my face. I could feel the velvety soft petals of my bouquet and smell the earthiness of all the greens. When we received the complete collection of photographs from our wedding, we fell back in time and were in Maine on our day all over again. We instantly relived the excitement, anxiety, and love of that day. Like having an incomplete memory restored, bits of captured moments fell back into place. Jamie was our extra set of eyes, seeing everything and everyone. She gave us a chance to live new scenes and experiences through her photos.

Btw, Cakies, you can find all of A + K’s inspiration for their woodland fall wedding on Pinterest.

Two rows of farm tables were set up with a mossy table runner + centerpieces of flowers, antlers from Amy’s dad’s collection, and her mom’s antique glass bottles. They gave guests mushroom stained glass sun catchers made by Amy’s mom as favors, and these cute jars held their family’s red currant jelly.

Then there’s this sweet set of cakes by The European Bakery that the bride decorated herself and displayed on DIY cake stands.

Talk about a perfect groom’s gift: Keith is a self-described amateur whisky connoisseur. He knows a ton about whisky, including how and where they are made and flavor profiles of different whiskies. He loves trying new whiskies and sharing the experience with others, so for our wedding I really wanted him to have a whisky cabinet to share with friends and family.

And aren’t these hand-stamped coffee cups the cutest? Yet another DIY by our talented bride…

Homemade sweets by family included hazelnut hedgehogs and meringue mushrooms. Um, so darling.

Last but not least, Amy + Keith’s love story… We met in medical school at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY in 2011. At the time, I was looking for an apartment and had already seen three that day, ruling them all out for various reasons. Last on my list was a small, rear apartment on Forest Avenue and a medical student named Keith, who lived in the front of the house, was going to meet me to show the apartment. I arrived at the address and saw this tall, incredibly attractive guy standing on the front lawn wearing glasses and holding a stack of textbook and his laptop. A definite nerd dream. He was all business, showing me the apartment quickly then running off, back to his lab.

A few weeks later, I was unpacking boxes in my new rear apartment on Forest Ave when I cut my finger with a box cutter. The cut was deep, right to the bone, and it bled incessantly. I definitely needed stiches! It was late at night and classes hadn’t started yet, so the only person I knew was my dreamy neighbor, Keith. Holding onto my gushing wound, I dialed Keith with my pinkie finger and explained what happened. Before I could even ask him for help he said, “Okay, I’ll be right there.”

Unbeknown to me, he was down the street at a student event when I called and he ran all the way home to help me. We drove to the emergency room and spent the next several hours talking and getting to know each other while I waited for stitches. That night we learned that we both had a lot in common, including our love of retro videogames, trying new cuisine, and indie films. One things for sure, we’ve never run out of things to talk about. Plop us down at a lounge-y bar or chill coffee house with sick beats and unique libations, and we’ll be there for hours just talking out life. Five years later, I can still see the scar on my finger from that providential night.

Cheers, you two!
