Modern Southern wedding: Jen + Jonathan

August 11, 2011

If we had the ability to show this wedding in 3-D that would be amazing. Sadly, we cannot – so the heart shaped 3-D glasses you’ll see later will have to do for the time being. This wedding is, to put it in one short and sweet word: rad. Jen + Jonathan not only had a fun and modern wedding, they even had a celebrity mashed-up name (Jennathan)! When we caught wind that the gals of Domestic Construction were friends of the couple and had free reign to design a wedding in a modern art museum, we knew it was going to be full of pretty.

Talk about a fun, grand entrance. Together with their wedding party, Jen + Jonathan piled into a parade of pedicabs and rode to the Jepson Center together.

Aren’t you just loving her dress? Jen designed it herself and had the help of Kathryn Conover to make it come to life. Same thing with her bridesmaids dresses – Jen designed them (perfectly with a nice sexy slit on the side), and sought the help of Mabel Ogawa to create them. We love how modern they look, and how completely wearable they can be well after the wedding.

For Jen and Jonathan’s big day we wanted to design an environment that was fun and festive while also keeping to the casual modern vibe they desired. The Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center provided a clean backdrop for the event but we felt that it was important to bring in warmth, and love.

Materials such as burlap runners, rough cut paper details, and raw edged custom fabric napkins helped in creating a contrast between the modern vibe of the museum and the warmth they desired. Each place setting included a striped handmade napkin, a ball jar water glass with a tea-stained tag stamped with the date of the wedding, and a pair of custom 3-D glasses (customized by trimming each one and applying brown paper to the faces + including a J and J stamp for a personal touch). It was a fun sight to see everyone put on the glasses and discover the surprise when they looked up at the lights and the room was filled with hearts!

We chose florals in a simple clean palette of creams, light peaches, and deep purple browns. Graphic artichokes, soft peonies, and hydrangeas were arranged in mercury glass containers and scattered down the tables to furthermore create the contrast of the hard and soft.

We are totally digging those 3-D glasses – yet, another fun DIY project that we can’t wait to steal! The Domestic Construction ladies nailed it – this wedding was modern and cozy in all the best ways possible. Thanks for sharing your talent ladies!

Congrats Jennathan – you two make one rad and adorable couple!
