Intimate Paso Robles vineyard wedding: Robyn + Dave

March 9, 2012

It pretty much can’t get more intimate than Robyn + Dave’s twelve guest wedding overlooking the vineyards nestled in the coastal mountain range of central California. As if their cozy family dinner style wedding isn’t enough to fall in love with, R + D are also high school sweethearts! They briefly dated, remained friends, went through some major life experiences, and reconnected years later. Robyn says it best, “Ours is the story where all you needed and wanted was right in front of you the whole time”.

I designed my invitations focusing on keeping them classic and simple. We used William Arthur Stationery for the ease of customizing, and because they had such a nice “and” graphic. I really love fine papers, but unfortunately were not within our budget, so we added texture with thermography printing (for the same cost as flat printing), and lined our own envelopes with artisan paper. Our stationery cost (before calligraphy and stamps) was $320.

The birdhouse up top is the cutest!

Their respectable careers are telling enough of loving these two are. Dave works for a small NGO doing International Disaster Response and disaster preparedness teaching. Robyn is a pediatric oncology nurse at the Children’s Hospital Colorado.

We wanted our wedding to feel like a family dinner, and our design decisions were made with the intent of achieving an intimate, warm environment. We had made plans (and reservations) for a large wedding in our hometown, and realized that, for us, it went against what we were trying to create. A perfect evening for us involves wine and fine dining, so we began to search for a venue that went to the very heart of that activity. I found HammerSky Vineyard by perusing wedding blogs and when I saw the view of the vineyard, the grey curtains blowing in the breeze, and the beautiful long exposed wood tables, I knew we’d found our perfect venue.

The most important floral aspect for us was the long bay-leaf garland that ran the length of the dinner table. We loved the rustic, intimate, European vibe it provided. It was also important to me to include the beautiful peach garden roses in the bridesmaid’s bouquets, and the dark purple mums in the other arrangements.

My favorite DIY project was the burlap banners. I created them with stencils, white paint, and a cut of burlap fabric.

The sweetest of weddings for sure! A California sunset sunbathing the vast vineyard that surrounds you and your twelve guests? Romantic!

Congratulations Robyn + Dave!
