C + B grew up in Florida and have lots of family there, so an outdoor wedding in the area was a must. But finding *the* venue—one with lush gardens and an intimate space—was the real challenge. Cassandra says, We finally found Waldo’s Secret Garden, the private residence of the eccentric builder and founder of the town of Vero Beach. Only an hour or two from much of our family, this eclectic and quirky space was exactly what we were looking for—in one half hour visit we had sealed the deal.
They really hit the jackpot with their dream venue: It came complete with a big tree with hanging moss, a vintage bar + mahogany farm tables and chairs, as you’ll see in all the shots Miranda Hattie shared:
Boyd is a graphic designer, so I came up with the original idea of using ferns for the invitations, which I adore and Florida is full of, and he worked on the calligraphy, paper, and printing. I hand tore all the edges of the invites and RSVP cards to give it that extra handmade feel, along with finding the perfect collection of vintage Florida stamps.
Cassandra is a jewelry designer, so you can guess that the rings and other jewels came from her line, Dalva NYC. Lots of delicate, stunning pieces on her site!
We had three musician friends playing music to start the ceremony, and the party walked down the aisle to a song Boyd wrote on the first trip we ever took together. I walked down the aisle with my dad to an acoustic rendition of I’ll Be Your Mirror by the Velvet Underground. The mother of one of my best friends served as the officiant, and she did an amazing job guiding us in designing this part of the day. Friends gave readings, and there was another song (Wild Mountain Thyme by The Byrds) performed amidst the ceremony. It never felt rushed, we were able to fully be present in the moment, and although I had originally felt a bit nervous about the ceremony, it was the best part of the whole day for us both.
Cassandra found these vintage metal roman numerals for the tables, and Boyd’s parents’ painted + mounted them on wood. His parents have a reclaimed lumber business, so they made all the board signs throughout too, with B’s lettering adorning them.
