A Filipino wedding at Coqui Coqui Valladolid in Mexico

Paulina + Clark met at a college birthday party, when a group of their friends set out on a mission to get them two to meet. (So cute!) When it came to their wedding in Mexico, they wanted to reflect their Filipino heritage while honoring the Yucatán location—complete with a ceremony at Coqui Coqui La Perfumería followed by a reception at Coqui Coqui Mesón de Malleville. It was the perfect marriage of their heritage, their location, and their love of travel (they are based in Australia, too!) and new experiences—all with 70 guests to share it with.

Big thanks to Mario Olvera, Maria Limon, and Memory Box Photography for all the deets!

Paulina says, We brought in beautiful handwoven fans and table runners from the Philippines that were custom made for us (contemporary versions of our traditional banig). We chose rich and vivid colors for our flowers, wine goblets, stationery and our dress code, to reflect the beautiful colonial houses in the town of Valladolid. We called our dress code ‘fiesta formal’ to sort of just lend it a name that our guests could use to grasp the vibe we were after. Everyone came in formal wear, in tones of terra cotta, lilac and yellow. It was truly a sight to behold from where my husband and I stood at the ceremony.

How gorgeous are Maria Limon’s florals? Paulina wanted their flowers to look like a painting—she showed her artist Sharon Core for inspiration. So she went with a mix of gold tones with yellows, lilacs, and marsala accents. Blooms included: lisianthus, butterfly ranunculus, chrysanthemums, Queen Anne’s lace and lilies.

They had their ceremony in the Coqui Coqui perfumery in the Yucatán, which had never held a wedding ceremony before!

After coming from one of our best friend’s wedding in New York in 2017, we went to visit Mexico and really fell in love with the place. During that trip we made our way out to the different Coqui Coqui residences and their perfumery, out of sheer curiosity and love for what their brand has done over the years. And, well, everything kind of just happened from there! Mexico felt so much like the Philippines in so many ways, but was just different enough to be a new experience for everyone, a beautiful holiday destination for all our friends and family. Coqui Coqui is also breathtaking in every way, so that detail kind of made the decision easier for us.

Such pretty paper designs in this wedding! Paulina is a graphic designer and took on all the stationery designs for the big day.

We really spread our events our across different parts of the Yucatán to imbibe new energy into every part of the entire experience. It was also great for everyone to get to see different parts of the Yucatán. We started off in by the beach, in Tulum, with our bachelor’s and bachelorette’s, then had our welcome party (a Welcome Merienda) in Cobá, which was in the middle of the jungle, next to Mayan pyramids, and finally had our ceremony and reception in Valladolid, a small, charming colonial town inland.
