Wedding, elopement and honeymoon destination: Montage Kapalua in Maui

June 27, 2017

Aloha from Hawaii! I spent a week with the hubs lazing in the warm summer Maui sun, and having our share of adventure as well. And of course I thought I’d share a little about our time in this relaxing place.

The Montage Kapalua was a welcome respite after the plane ride from Los Angeles and drive through the countryside to the Kapalua region of Maui. Lush fields of sugar cane covered most of the landscape to our destination. Once we made it to the Montage, we were greeted with fresh lavender lemon water, and of course a vibrant floral lei. Then we explored the grounds a bit. Bright green grass, plenty of tropical palms waving in the wind. Paradise at its finest.

I toured their wedding lawn, a mini peninsula with a 180 degree view of the water. Not sure it gets any more scenic than that!

Kapalua is known for the best snorkeling on the island. Gentle waves, colorful tropical fish, and clear water.

We spent our fair share of time relaxing by the pool lagoon too. Probably one of the most impressive I’ve seen, complete with waterfalls, little inlets to steal a kiss, and areas to float and dream.

Montage Kapalua lei making

I took a lei making class with the hotel’s cultural ambassador, Silla. She has lived in Maui her whole life, so knows all the best flowers and plants to construct a gorgeous lei.

We had some wonderfully fresh meals at one of their restaurants, Cane and Canoe. The pineapple! The mango! The papaya! We had our fair share.

The Montage has recently partnered with Harry Winston on a proposal-of-a-lifetime package called “Love is in the air”. To put a playful spin on the cherished tradition, couples will propose without the ring, and instead be presented with a Harry Winston box and the opportunity to select an engagement ring of their choice together. Couples will then be whisked away via helicopter to the neighboring island of Oahu to the House of Harry Winston and, with Champagne in hand, will receive a private consultation from the elite Harry Winston team to select their ring. Following the excitement of the proposal day, couples will spend the rest of their vacation in bliss at Montage Kapalua Bay. Be sure to mention the package to any friends getting married, so it can be the ultimate surprise!

Some of the views from the helicopter on the way to Oahu…though not sure which is more impressive.. the view, or the diamonds once you get to the House of Harry Winston 😉

BAM! These diamonds….omg. I did not want to take them off. Prices start at $6000 for a Harry Winston ring, so there’s a price range for almost everyone.

There’s so much to explore in Maui. Here’s a little list of the things we did, if you’re planning a trip there soon:
– turtle watching at sunset at Ho’okipa beach
– hike at Twin Falls to see some gorgeous waterfalls, a bamboo forest and tropical foliage
– relax at the wide stretch of white sand beach called Big Beach (not to be confused with Little Beach, which is a clothing-optional beach)
– explore Pa’ia, a small dreamy beach town with the cutest restaurants and clothing shops (we ate at Pa’ia Fish Market, Flatbread, Pa’ia Bay Coffee, Pa’ia Bowls)
– lunch and pie at Leoda’s, and dinner at Mama’s Fish House… both are a must on Maui
– Oluwalu juice stand (right beside Leoda’s)
– snorkeling at Kapalua Beach
– rent a car that can handle bumps and turns, and drive the road to Hana
– hike the Haleakala Crater
– visit Wai’anapanapa and check out the black sand beach

There you have it! A dreamy vacation for elopements, honeymooners and vacationers alike. Feel free to comment below on your Maui experiences, suggestions or questions about the island. Aloha!
