Once upon a time designer + florist Karly Rose took an auto class to learn how to fix up her old truck and left having met her future groom, Greg (they’re now both restoring that 1969 International Scout). Two and a half years later, after buying their dream house, it was time to get hitched how Karly had always wanted—an elopement. Karly + her mom Karen own Verbena: Flowers & Trimmings in Roseville, CA and they quickly realized it’d be the ideal backdrop for a flower farm reception, all of which they planned in six weeks. Impressive, if you ask us.

Big thanks to Colleen Riley Photography for the photos!

Karly explains, I spent the days before the celebration picking flowers, foraging friend’s yards for blackberries and vines, and creating last minute handmade details. All of the flowers and foliage for the centerpieces were grown on Verbena’s flower farm or foraged locally. We are proud supporters of the Slow Flowers Movement, meaning we support locally grown flowers as well as organically grown flowers. That is why we grow our own flowers and love incorporating our blooms into our brides’ special days. Luckily the farm was bursting with beauty and provided us with bountiful blooms that my mom and I designed into flowing, free, wild, and rich centerpieces to grace the table that weaved through the flower farm.

How cool. Guests could also stroll through all the gardens and check out the farm.

The event was country casual but wildly elegant as well, which symbolizes Greg and I. We had neutral, natural, subtle colors and textures as a backdrop to the gorgeous opulent flowers and pops of berry colors. The tablecloths were painters’ canvas from a hardware store, while the slate colored runners were rented from Celebration’s Party Rentals along with the wooden chairs. My mom had lovely china from her grandmother, which was a perfect family heirloom to incorporate. Dogwood Rentals provided an array of other beautiful complementary dinner plates as well as amazing silver-plated candlestick holders that carried the light into the night. We borrowed ornate silverware from all of our in-laws and the elegant settings were paired with casual diamond pattern mason jars.

Some of Karly’s graphic design projects: Plasma cut signage, custom popcorn bags, floral labels, a hand-lettered guestbook, and a mural with scenery from the elopement site. Her and her mom also created this G&K sign using fuschia flower heads called gomphrena pinned to a circular board.

While tending a farm and planning a reception in a month and a half isn’t the ideal method to be celebrating a marriage, I would not have it any other way. With the help of an amazing team of so many family and friends, we were able to pull off a truly magnificent and cherished flower farm sunset celebration filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Beautiful! Congrats, Karly + Greg!
