W Punta Mita trip and review on 100 Layer Cake

Calling all people who love tropical vacations and margaritas and luxury hotels! Oh, wait, that’s ALL of us, right? Any trip to Mexico is a good trip to Mexico if you ask us. Especially when you land in a spot as beautiful and warm as the W Punta Mita. Jillian and Kristina just came back from three blissful nights (with no kids!) on that beach up there courtesy of SPG Weddings and we get to share the photos with you all today! Seriously can’t recommend this spot enough for a fun girl’s trip (hello bachelorette party!) or quick vacation this winter. Keep reading to see the beautiful photos by local Sayulita wedding photographer, Jillian Mitchell.

The rooms are so fun! Perfect surfer chic, indoor-outdoor, loads of beautiful light. And all of the art in the hotel was created by local Sayulita artists, which is a really fun touch.

Um hello, plunge pool of dreams!

The sunsets here were so super beautiful. Just pastel perfection every day.

We did not mind lounging by the pool in our neutral dresses drinking fancy cocktails. Not at all.

Seriously, this pool? We spent many many many hours here.

And here’s a little peek at some of our instagrams during the trip too. It was all sunny and white sands and the warmest water. And we surfed! The instructors at the W were so kind and so helpful! We were both unsure how much surfing we were actually going to do, but we really caught waves. It was so thrilling. They’ll also take you snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, cruising… really anything you want to do in the water is available.

Guide to visiting Sayulita on 100 Layer Cake

No trip to Punta de Mita would be complete without a visit to the hipper-by-the-minute town of Sayulita, where Jillian got married 10 years ago! We spent one evening exploring the festive streets, drinking watermelon mezcal margaritas, and shopping in the charming boutiques.

Shopping shopping shopping. Some of our favorite spots are coming up in our next post tomorrow!

Wish we had stayed an entire week so we could split our time more fairly between the W’s pool and spa, and the streets of Sayu!

So, about the Spa. It was so fantastic. The little private pools and lounge were straight out of a dream. We know, because we went every day.

Just something about a hotel lobby bar, don’t you agree? Super yummy snacks and drinks during sunset right here. Every little moment of the hotel is so thoughtfully designed. Makes for great conversation and exploration during a visit. Part of the property feels like you’re walking through the jungle! It’s really pretty amazing that they were able to carve out the construction of the buildings among the huge mature trees and plants. It really gives the resort that established, secluded feeling of a exclusive getaway.

Goes without saying that the W would be an amazing venue for a destination wedding too! (More info on SPG Weddings if you’re curious.) The beach is spectacular and they have a huge outdoor entertaining space that would make for a perfect Mexican reception on the sand. Very worth exploring if you’re considering tying the knot south of the border.

Seriously we had the best time! Thanks for having us, W Punta de Mita. We truly cannot wait to come back.
