Their ceremony and reception took place at a friend’s ranch, which is also where they were engaged. Most of the furniture came from the various houses on the property, and the blankets, linens, vases, glasses and things were all thrifted. You’ll see as you keep reading what an amazing eye James has for vintage.

Doesn’t it just feel real? Love the imperfect perfectness of it all, and how each detail feels like it really belongs.

As we know, no epic party would be complete without Señor Antonia on the tables. Looks like he didn’t disappoint.

Their first dance song? Skinny Love by Bon Iver. GAAAHHH. Perfect perfect, as you’d imagine.

And their wedding is such a gorgeous expression of what we imagine their life, and their love story to be. So many beautiful details (designed by the lovely Ashley Meaders), but nothing over wrought or too too. Just pure, delicious beauty captured expertly by the supremely talented Brooke Schwab. And their children (two for James first, and then one little wonder, Gemma Bird, together) were such an awesome part of their celebration, we just ate it all up.

The bride’s entire look came from BHLDN… wedding dress, headpiece, boots, and ceremony dress. She looked smashing. Bridesmaids wore vintage, and the three of them together is almost too much to bear.

Oh little muffin! We want to devour you, Gemma Bird.

James walked down the aisle to Beauty by The Shivers, and they returned as husband and wife to The Ballad of John and Yoko by John Lennon.

Those cute glitter bags they made themselves… a super easy DIY project that definitely makes for a fun recessional.

James and Aubrey wanted their wedding to be effortless and easy so that they could really focus on the time with their family and close friends. They wanted it to reflect who they are and what they love, and we can probably all agree that this feels like THEM. Even if we don’t know them.

It’s epic, don’t you think? So so so many beautiful photos that this is just part one. We’ll be back soon with the reception. It’s just as good as you’re hoping. Promise.

Making our invitations by hand saved us a lot of money, but it was definitely an exhausting process. We got the paper for the invites from Kelly Paper in SF, the envelopes from Paper Source and the bingo wrapping paper that lined the envelopes, in their sales bin. What’s not in the photos is the confetti that we filled our invites with, made from pink, orange, and sea foamy green tissue paper.

How stunning is this photo?

The music: Before Ivy entered they played Beirut and some carnival music they found on iTunes. She then walked down the aisle to “Like Someone In Love” by Bjork, and our first dance was “So High” by John Legend.

A great tip to keeping the cost low for your flowers  - order a multi pack! Ivy ordered orange, yellow, and pink wildflowers and a bunch of pink cabbage roses from an online wholesale company called FiftyFlowers and saved herself at least $900.

We worked with Amy at The TreeSpace Studio on our invitations. I looked at many online stationers but had a hard time finding designs that fully conveyed our theme and aesthetic. Amy’s designs are colorful and whimsical which was totally in line with our theme, but what I love most is that her invitations are truly original hand-drawn works of art! Amy offered templates that we could pick from that costs less than starting a design from scratch (which she could do also), with end results that are still very original & unique. We decided on a design that highlighted our greenhouse venue.

Angela’s bouquet used chocolate cosmos, cymbidium, oncidium, coreopsis, scabiosa flowers & pods, uluhe (fiddlehead) fern, china berry, dianthus, echeveria, and maple leaves.
