Summer was fantastic, but aren’t you so ready for Fall now? Since today is the first official day of Fall, and it’s Friday, we thought it would be nice to jazz things up with a glowing inspiration shoot (literally). Juli Vaughn, Event Designer behind the pretty madness you’re about to see, rocked this shoot like no other. Oh, and the below print reading, “Keep calm and sparkle on” ? Juli made it herself! This lady is full of ideas that we wish we could buy and put on our walls!

Love the “XO” lighting as much as we do, and dying to know how Juli made it? Take notes:

First, I twisted all of the light bulbs (purchased at World Market) out of their sockets and set them aside. Then, using an x-acto knife, I cut a poster size black foam board in half and penciled out the X and O on the back. I cut 10 small (1/2 inch) squares along the penciled line of the letters, popped in the light sockets, and screwed in the light bulbs on the front. Last, I poked holes in the top of the foam board, threaded some ribbon through, and hung them inside the frames. Voila!

Juli, on the inspiration behind the concept:

I wanted to focus attention on the dreaminess of stars rather than the cliché nautical way they are normally portrayed. I started with the colors of a sky strewn with stars: Indigo, Black, and shades of Gold. Then I looked for flowers and DIY elements that were reminiscent of a star shape or had a little sparkle. I lucked out the day of the shoot because I found yellow peonies – they’re super hard to find but so gloriously fluffy and look like a burst of flame! I was thrilled when MyLife Photography and Elisha Sewell agreed to collaborate because they’re both so amazingly talented.

Thanks for sharing your amazing talents, ladies! Keep calm and sparkle on!

This week we’re starting off with a really fun sale in the Pop-Up ShopPlurabelle Calligraphy!

Molly’s way with pen & ink are remarkable, and we love that she’s all for people dressing up their everyday correspondence with something unexpected and pretty. Pick up a custom address stamp (we’ll be getting these ourselves!), or have her pen your entire invite suite and even reception menus.

Can’t decide? You can always just have your names done up as a little memento of your love. Awwww.

You can see tons of Molly’s beautiful work on her site, in case you need a bit more convincing. Or just pop over and check out what’s available now!

LOVE these invites we spotted on Sideshow Press’s blog. Here is a description from Jay, the groom and designer:

As much as it might have been fun to use a bunch of blackletter typefaces and neon inks, I figured it’d be best to reign it in and create something that felt like a merger of both our personalities. The end result takes that idea literally by sandwiching simple elements & textures which represent the two of us as individuals to create a finished package that’s distinctly “us.” That’s my design mumbo-jumbo explanation, anyway. Really, I just wanted to put her in a cameo and myself in a plaid shirt, and somehow print it on actual wood. The invitation was letterpressed cherry wood veneer which we then duplexed to crane lettra pearl white cover stock.

Aren’t they beautiful and awesome and unique? Even though we don’t know them, it’s pretty obvious that groom-y designed these with his and his lovely bride-to-be’s tastes in mind.

We’re so happy there’s more of this shoot to share with you! It’s got summer romance written all over it, while also serving as the perfect transition into Fall. So, let’s dive right into all the lovely details from Sugar & Fluff‘s most recent creation, and collaboration with Jose Villa. These creatives know how to do it right!

The raw simplicity was transgressed through the table setting and into the centerpiece, which focused on an aesthetic of found, simple organic objects.

Invitation design was inspired by the mechanism of the “magic wallet.” I loved the concept of forming some sort of leave behind after the invitation was read and used. Menus followed the stationery suite with colors of gold, white and espresso.

The florals were interlaced with our ombré wheat runner to add a bit of neutral color and detail.

We hope to see more collaborations from these two! Thanks for sharing guys!

Stationery lovers get ready to swoon. The paper goods in today’s wedding, designed by Scout’s Honor Co., are gorgeous to the max! From the save the date, to the invite, the place cards, handheld paper fans, to the guest wishes – not one paper good was left unturned. The watercolors, type, and illustrations you see in the save the date were tied into every single wedding detail, pulling the “classy, beachy, and elegant” theme together impeccably, and if you can’t tell, we’re kind of in love. We know we’re obsessing over the paper goods, but oh, there is so much more pretty to see in Melanie + James’ summer wedding, thanks to Tania Lezak Photography!

Here’s Melanie to dish on the beautiful invitation suite:

My friend Annemarie Buckley was our stationer and words do not describe how wonderfully talented she is. We met in college, studied abroad in Australia together and she just recently started her company Scouts Honor Co. We both have a deep love of stationery and all things paper, so this was a dream collaboration. I told Annemarie that I wanted to use blues and yellows, and while I wanted the invitation to evoke “beach”, I didn’t want literal interpretations of it i.e. seashells, etc. I didn’t want my invitations to look like everyone else’s and Annemarie was able to customize them to our personalities, the spirit of the wedding, and the life of Long Beach Island where the wedding took place.  I can’t tell you how many people asked if they could verbally respond to our wedding so they could keep the response card! Her work was the thread that tied everything together.

We’re smitten over these multi-functional program/fans.

I used hydrangeas and candles (that were made by my aunt!) as the main decoration, while also displaying lanterns and family photos throughout the estate. The Bonnet Island Estate is essentially a house with 12 bedrooms upstairs so we wanted our guests to feel as though they were at our home and we just happen to have a chapel and ballroom on the property.

Our favors were monkey fist keychains that I purchased on Etsy.com from Mystic Knotwork. I thought these were so well made and unique, I had to get them. Plus the nautical knot, Monkey Fist, tied (pun intended) into our beachy theme. Paired with Annemarie’s tag, “Melanie + James Tied the Knot 7.23.2011″, it was the perfect favor. The hand-tied keychains cost about $700 for 175.

Like we mentioned earlier, every little detail was so well thought out that even their first dance song fit perfectly with their nautical theme. The song: Cat Power’s, Sea of Love.
