While on a complete high from the proposal in Lake Como, we scurried down in the direction of Florence. Neither of us had been there before and we heard it was an amazing city, so we were pretty excited to see what all the buzz was about. We arrived at our hotel a little late due to getting lost in Milan on the way down (and being a bit starry-eyed) but we finally made it. The hotel manager at Riva Lofts ensured someone was waiting up to see us to our space (thank you, Alice!).

Exploring this city with so much history and art was fascinating. Of course we hit all the popular spots, the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, the Ponte Vecchio, and saw the David, which was so much more magnificent and enormous than I ever had thought it would be!

Our dinners were spent in the Oltrarno quarter, which any local will tell you is the *only* place to go out for food. We had a lovely bistecca alla Fiorentina our last night there at Il Guscio, hidden on a quiet street.

Since we love the markets, we had to hit the Mercato Centrale, where we picked up some dried pasta, olive oil and almost 3 pounds of grana padano cheese to take back with us. yum! The most delicious sandwich we had on the entire trip was in the Mercato building where one of the stands sold prosciutto, pecorino and smoked tomato paninis. We took them over to the steps by the Basilica di Santa Maria Fiore and gobbled them up, stopping only to snap a quick photo before I took the last bite.

A true delight that I would recommend to any couples traveling to Florence is to spend some time in the Officina Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. Dominican monks began concocting herbal remedies here in the 13th century and today, they still sell traditional elixirs along with more contemporary skin-care products, oils and perfumes. Once inside, you’re in another world. You feel the history and smell the strong, sweet fragrance of flowers and essential oils wafting through the rooms. And needless to say, it’s a pretty romantic place to go with a lover.

I had been searching high and low for a good cooking class to take in Italy and came across Cooking in Tuscany from the Italian Visits website. We had a great time learning the proper techniques for making the perfect noodle dough, spinach ravioli, Tuscan crostini, risotto, pistachio chicken, zucchini flan and ricotta torta.

Found the cutest gelateria near the bridge, Gelateria Santa Trinita, and since it was pink I had to give it a try! Ended up being some of our favorite gelato in Florence, right behind Vivoli.

One of the highlights of our time in Florence was the “hotel” where we stayed. Riva Lofts was nothing short of amazing. Rustic, Italian countryside chic on the outside with a sleek, modern interior accented by antique decor touches. If we could live here, we would..it was the most unique and coolest hotel we stayed in the entire trip (and probably in our lives). Plus the staff was incredibly helpful, recommending restaurants and routes to take through town. They make their own delicious olive oil which you can purchase at the hotel. Plus they have a collections of cute bikes that you can borrow, which we did one evening and rode through the streets of Florence at night.

They also hold wedding receptions at the hotel. The manager, Alice, (who is also the hotel architect’s daughter) sent me some photos of a past wedding..

Here are a few Instagram snaps of the stylish and simple breakfasts we had there. The bottom two photos are some pretty bottles we came across in one of the shops (that might slightly influence the style of our wedding invitations?), and some delicious fresh fruit puree popsicles near the Palazzo Vecchio.

Buonasera! Stay tuned for our trip through the Tuscan towns of Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena and Saturnia!

Ok, so continuing on with our trip…after our time exploring Venice and stopping for some delicious pizza in Verona, we jumped in our rental car and headed to the magical area of Lake Como. May I say that driving in Italy is an adventure, to say the least. Going nearly 90 mph on the autostrada and watching cars fly by us made me shriek a few times!

Nestled in the Alps, with a glacier lake that is as deep in parts as the mountains are high, it was a breathtaking sight! After driving a few hours from Verona, we looked up and saw this hotel thinking “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could stay THERE?” only to find out that was in fact our hotel!  We checked in to the lovely Grand Hotel Tremezzo, and hiked up on their property for this beautiful view of the hotel and lake below..

Breakfast each day was a huge glamorous spread of freshly prepared omelets, sausages, salamis, potatoes, an array of juices, fruit and breads on a big open-air patio overlooking the shimmering lake. The back pool area was one of the most impressive I’ve ever seen..surrounded by lush greenery with the cutest little snack bar. Their second pool is below.. and is actually on top of the lake! Such a perfect hotel for honeymooners.

Being in Lake Como makes you feel like royalty. Considering we weren’t, we felt a bit out-of-place until we decided to pretend like we belonged there in this fantasy land, amongst the wealthy vacationers and celebrities. We took ferries to Villa Balbianello, Villa d’Este, and Bellagio, ate fresh fish from the lake at Trattoria San Giacomo, drank champagne and reveled in the fact that we were actually present in this unbelievable scenery right out of a movie.

Our last day there, we decided to take a boat out on the lake to take in the scenery on the coast at sunset. It had been awhile since Tim had driven a boat, but we sped on out to the middle of the lake, laughing the whole while. Tim was snapping photos of me, I was taking photos of him and we were on a huge high. I felt so glamorous being out there on that boat, and almost teared up at how beautiful and serene it all was, and how lucky I felt to share this whole experience with my best friend. I heard the engine stop, turned around and Tim was there with a ring and the sweetest proposal!!!

Hi everyone! Amanda, here. Tim and I just got back from our dreamy Italian journey and had such a magnificent time!! I thought I’d share some photos and tips from our trip for those of you that are starting to think about your honeymoon (or for those of you that just need a mental vacation!).

Italy, of course, is one of the most romantic places on earth so it is the perfect spot to spend some time with your new hubs! Katie from Ever After Honeymoons helped us figure out the perfect itinerary that fit in every city we wanted to see. I’m not sure we would have coordinated everything as smoothly if she weren’t involved, so thank you Katie!

We started our trip in Venice, the honeymoon capital of the Italian romantic heartland. And yes, romantic it was..

We spent a couple mornings on a trip through the Rialto Market…a big, open-air market with loads of fish, vegetables, spices and tourist merchandise. A great place to pick up some tomatoes and fresh herbs to cook with if you have access to a kitchen and want to save a little money on food. We rented this cute apartment through Homeaway.com and had a comfy place to relax after our daily adventures.

Venice is such a lovely city…we meandered through the corridors, stopping for a gelato or to take in the bustle of the Grand Canal. We had quiet dinners at osterias in dimly-lit squares at night, and just reveled in every moment. Eating well in Venice is quite easy to do, especially if you stay away from the touristy restaurants near much of the Piazza del San Marco. Restaurants that have photos of the food displayed anywhere scream “tourist trap!” so don’t waste a precious meal there. A stylish lunch at the Osteria Enoteca San Marco was cozy and delicious. Dinner highlights include Osteria Boccadoro and Antiche Carampane, both of which are a little tricky to find, but worth the trip through the maze!

And of course, a little ride in one of the gondolas was in order. The price was a little steep at 100 euro, but the experience was so memorable…seeing the city from the canal view, snuggled up to my man, and feeling like a celebrity as the tourists above you frantically wave in your direction. So very fun! Nighttime was our favorite part of the day, where the tourists are few and we felt like the city was ours..

Stay tuned for more adventures, continuing with our trip to Lake Como tomorrow! xx

Amanda and her beau are heading for an Italian vacation in a couple weeks, and she ran across this fun turban tutorial on Etsy’s French blog while looking for cute fashion for the trip. ‘twould be such a fun accessory to wear on your honeymoon while shopping with your new hubs, or taking a gondola ride down the romantic canals in Venice. Magnifico!

Super excited this amazing couple decided to take an exotic, gorgeous and romantic trip to North Africa, because now we get to share it with all of you!  After a small and intimate ceremony in the states with close friends and family, Engracia and Andy hopped on a plane to Marrakech, Morocco to celebrate their honeymoon. Apparently, it’s not an easy task to find a photographer in Marrakech. Fortunately, for all of us, they found Andreas Holms!  Seriously, we can’t imagine a richer, more colorful backdrop than Morocco – plus a bride riding a camel in her wedding dress? Sounds scary, amazing, and makes for incredible photos.

Camel back riding has never looked so romantic. Be warned though. As Engracia pointed out, “Hold on tight when the camel is about to stand up or you’ll fall head first!”. Love the adventurous spirit this couple shares!

What better way to end their photo session than to rehash the memories of their wedding day and adventures in Morocco over a crackling campfire. Definitely makes you want to pack your bags and follow in their footsteps, right?!

Thanks for sharing, Andreas, Engracia and Andy!
