Hey, 2012!  You’re just around the corner and we can already tell you’re looking good. Just promise to be as full of sparkly pretty things as this shoot is, styled by Sarah Tucker Events. For any Cakelets taking the plunge and saying ‘I Do’ this New Year’s Eve/Day, we wish you the best! Everyone else, feast your eyes on this shoot, photographed by the dreamy Jessica Lorren Organic. Its southern mossy oaks served as the perfect backdrop for this New Years brunch inspired shoot and the sprinkles of gold shimmer have us wanting to bring out the sparklers!

2012 new years party brunch

The 1950s tea length dress with scalloped lace was picked out at Retro Rosies in Downtown Bradenton.  It’s a cute vintage shop with an entire room of affordable vintage wedding gowns and accessories all under $100!

The New Year’s inspired mask the bride is wearing was painted with metallic gold spray paint and fitted with soft pink velvet ribbon, and the romantic calligraphy seating chart by Rachel Carl & Co has mixed metallics to note the table numbers. It was fastened to an oak tree trunk on top of vintage pink lace that was once a dress.

We love Michaela and Lotta’s work philosophy. Design, create and decorate for one reaction: Hey Look! Hence their company’s name, HEY LOOK. They were sweet enough to pass along their talents to share with y’all, and seeing as we’re only 8 days closer to Christmas, um, we think it’s safe to say that we all need as much help as we can get stat! These ladies are delivering the cutest glitzy and modern gift wrap inspiration around. We’ll let them take it from here!

Grab the following materials and you’re set for this entire project:

• Plain white wrapping paper
• Kraft wrapping paper
• Twine & thin nylon string
• Crepe paper streamers (in white, pink, black)
• Gold fringe door curtain (available at almost any party supply store)

The awesome thing about this is that with one gold curtain one can basically whip up a huge amount of gift wrap and still have a lot of sparkly gold fringes leftover for decorating the home or a holiday party (extra sparkly is always a good thing)!

A few how-to’s to help you along the way:

• Wrap crepe streamer around a package and embellish with one or several strips of gold (you can also twist the gold strips until they form a spiral – see black wrapping)
• Tie thin nylon string around a wrapped gift, layer crepe streamer pieces and gold strips on top, then tie together centered with nylon string, so the crepe and gold strips form a bow (see image 1)
• Ruffle crepe streamer piece onto a gold strip and tie around a package (see pink images)
• Simply grab a handful of either crepe paper and gold strips or only gold strips, wrinkle them up a little and layer onto a package, then tie around it with thin nylon string
• Make a pompom of crepe streamer (cut into strips as wide as the gold curtain strips) and gold strips and tie or glue onto a package

No excuse for non-pretty wrapped presents this year! We know what we’re doing over the weekend. Thanks to the ladies at HEY LOOK for sharing their DIY skills! Oh, and if you’re anything like us, you’ll find yourself getting lost in craft heaven when you check out their blog.

Happy Friday!

Right now there’s a pier in San Francisco (not Pier 51) sitting lonely that was recently graced by the hands of Rosemary Events and Sillapere, the planning & design team behind many show-stopping Bay Area weddings. The idea behind the shoot was borne of the nautical feel and chilled fog that sweeps over San Francisco’s Marina District. Needless to say the vibrant orange Dahlias, heart-shaped stones and shades of blue in this tablescape bring more romance to a city already full of lovers. If we didn’t tell you this was photographed by Jose Villa, we’re sure you would have figured it out after the first stunning image.  To see more head to newsstands today to pick up the latest issue of San Francisco Brides Magazine!

The table is set with classic Match Pewter Tableware and Sugahara glasses. Custom papers designed by Pancake & Franks pair perfectly with the gunmetal linen napkin and provide just the right balance of classic and edgy. The sweet finish to the setting is the charming heart paperweight accented with rope and bittersweet… a thoughtful takeaway gift for each guest. The whole look is finished with linen stripe armchairs and side chairs in grey and natural linen from H.D. Buttercup.

In order to create a soft and neutral backdrop for the dramatic sculptural piece of driftwood at the center of the table, they started with a natural table linen and a gorgeous Brahms Mount overlay. Imitating textures under the sea, they tucked Dusty Miller and vibrant orange Dahlias in the driftwood as if were organically growing there.

Happy first day of December everyone! In honor of the holiday season already buzzing in the air, we thought we’d share a few of our favorite holiday party ideas, starting with Tartan. This theme gets us feeling all warm and cozy inside.

When it comes to winter fashion it’s all about layering and bundling up. Throw on a plaid scarf and mix it with a contrasting plaid blazer. Or, why not pack a blanket and find the perfect spot in the park for a little romantic picnic. Check out this guide from Note to Self to find out what you’ll need. And you gotta check out the latest issue of Sweet Paul, he shares this lovely idea for a Tartan holiday wreath.

Time to break out your old thermos and put it to good use. Wouldn’t this make for a cute table arrangement?

A holiday party wouldn’t be the same without a little egg nog. Yum! You can see more of this pretty holiday tablescape, by Janie of The Brides Cafe, on Green Wedding Shoes.

Okay, this is a bit over the top, but seriously love the drama of a big chandelier mixed with an everyday object coated in strips of plaid. Makes us want to sacrifice a few old plaid shirts and cover a chair or a mantel or maybe even a staircase. MAC cosmetics created “A Tartan Tale” themed holiday party for their 2010 product launch. You can find more inspiration here.

We have more holiday ideas to come. In the meantime, we’d love to know what you’ll be doing to spice up your holiday party and/or decor!
