diy holiday magnolia wreath

Your holiday decor is about to get a little more golden! After sharing our modern holiday mantel ideas post last week and hearing all the lovely feedback on our foxy gold statement wreath, we pleaded to Danielle from Brown Paper Design (the genius behind it all) to share the deets on how to recreate it. It’s completely doable and party guests are guaranteed to walk up to it and ask where you bought it.

The mantel makes such a statement this time of year, don’t you think? Those of us without fireplaces are very jealous of those who have them, that’s for sure. We had a fun time dressing up Jillian’s mantel with pretty golds and pinks. Again with the help of Danielle from Brown Paper Design and Erin Hearts Court, of course.

Isn’t that wreath spectacular? Danielle made it using a wreath frame and found branches from her neighborhood magnolia trees. She spray painted the green side of each leaf with gold and then assembled it using wire. And she claims it’s really not as complicated as it looks. Amazing!

Jillian created the garland for the mantel using styrofoam balls she spray painted with copper, gold, and silver. She strung them using a needle and heavy string and then hung them from teeny nails hidden behind the drop of her mantel.

Cute party shoes, no? Clearly the fashion at a party like this would be bold and sparkly.

Love the illustrated ornaments for an easy little project to dress up any part of your house this time of year. Jillian drew them and guess what? You totally can too!

We’ll be sharing a tutorial for the little glitter votives later in the week. Yay.

holiday cocktails

See, you grab a champagne cocktail from the Bubbly Bar and then make your way over to the fireplace and warm yourself in from of faux bois logs! It’s so perfectly modern.

Love Amanda’s sequin polka dot top? It’s from J. Crew and you can have your own if you grab one while they’re still in stock.

And a vintage aluminum Christmas tree, natch! Someone snapped it up out of the Pop-Up Shop already. Lucky gal, cause it’s a cute one! We dressed it in vintage ornaments from Kristina’s grandma’s collection. There’s something so wonderful about vintage Christmas, isn’t there?

More coming on the holiday front later today and this week. Sooo much good inspiration this time of year!

Alrighty… time to get our holiday inspiration on, Cakelets! We put together this gorgy shoot with the help of Erin Hearts Court, Brown Paper Design, and Sara Forte of Sprouted Kitchen. Dream team! It’s impossible to resist the romance of champagne and sweets, so we dressed up that time-tested party theme with our Holiday Bubbly Bar.

100 Layer Cake's Bubbly Bar

Right?! If this isn’t a recipe for a smash-hit party, we’re not sure what is. That centerpiece Danielle created had us pretty much gasping for air when it appeared at our shoot. And Sara’s beautiful deserts were as tasty as they are pretty.

100 Layer Cake's Bubbly Bar

This is actually a pretty manageable party theme. Grab a few (or 10) bottles of champagne and gather a handful of complementary syrups and liquors for mixing. Then add a few yummy garnishes and you’ve got a sparkly party on your hands.

Tal from the Pharmacie (our favorite cocktail guru) suggests soaking a sugar cube in bitters in the glass, then topping with bubbly. Or just add a splash of fruit-based liquor to your champagne for a DIY Royale.

Sprouted Kitchen's trifle

Sara whipped up Pumpkin Gingersnap Trifle, Almond Date Truffles, Chocolate Peppermint Molten Cake, and a yummy cheese and fruit platter.

And we created a few sparkly party details to make sipping even more fun.

Isn’t that cake dome amazing? Bountiful in Venice loaned us a bunch of beautiful cake plates and domes for the shoot. And guess what? They’re have a HALF off holiday sale right now!

Pretty, pretty, right? We’d love to actually attend this party. Anyone want to throw one? We’ll be sharing the rest of the shoot (yes, there’s more!), and a few DIY tutorials this week too. Plus we’re giving away a copy of Sara‘s beautiful new cookbook. Stay tuned!

Hop over to our Facebook page for more photos from this shoot.

We are in love with Adam + Dave’s wedding. It may leave you day dreaming about saying ‘I do’ in a mansion along the coast though – which could be dangerous. The photos alone, shot by one of the talented members of The Wedding Collective, Josh Goleman, leave us in our tracks. But it’s the attention to detail that gets us. When a couple hits the mark on designing a beautiful invitation suite, uses the perfect typography to communicate where to dance, eat, and use the loo, and books an extraordinary venue to tie it all together (cue high fives), we get goosebumps.

Talk about a mansion! This place is incredible, right? Here’s Adam on why they chose The Crane Estate in Ipswich MA: It was a place my family visited often growing up.When Dave and I first started dating I took him. It wasn’t until much later we both admitted that it was on that day we both fell in love, unbeknownced to the other. Years later we went back, and it’s where we got engaged. Sitting at the end of the rolling green that day, staring at the ocean feeling as happy as we ever had is when we decided we wanted to get married there. So the location, while it hosts many weddings a year, will always be a very meaningful place to us. It was the perfect setting and we customized it in ways that made it very personal to us.

Adam on designing their gorgeous suite: Being a graphic designer, I felt a tremendous amount of pressure to design our invitations. I used Jakprints.com for printing the individual cards in lieu of traditional letterpress printing, printed the RSVP envelopes and mailing envelopes at home using my Epson printer, and assembled everything myself.

How Adam + Dave met: We met by chance in a bar one night, and felt an immediate connection. The connection evolved over the course of a 4 year courtship, until we both acknowledged that we were each interested in taking things to the next level. While we had very different life experiences, and shared very different points of views on things (Dave being practical and business oriented, Adam being a dreamer and creative), we found alignment morally. It became clear that our differences was what made our relationship so strong. While we are centered around a common set of core values, we each bring something completely different to the other’s life, and it continues to reveal new and interesting experiences together.

stamped escort cards

The RSVP’s and escort cards were my favorite DIY project. I am a bit obsessed with vintage ephemera, especially anything involving typography. Given that we had people coming from different locations, I began collecting post cards from each place. We used the postcards as our RSVP cards. Then designed stickers that I adhered to the back of the postcards for people to fill in their names and check off if they’d be attending. They then mailed these back to us as their RSVP cards. Once collected, I re-used them for their escort card. I stamped each one to correspond with the table numbers. Guests enjoyed seeing the different postcards, and seeing their own handiwork incorporated to the overall design of the event.

Flawless centerpiece, don’t you think? You can never go wrong with terrariums.

Ok, these two have stolen our hearts and so has their venue, their invites, their flowers… it’s all perfect!

Congratulations Adam + Dave! You’ve left us so inspired!
