Mexican themed wedding | photo by Justin Lee | 100 Layer Cake

After meeting in Cabo San Lucas, Melissa + Scott had a romance that hit the ground running. With kids and a courthouse marriage under their belts, they finally decided, 5 years after they met, to have the wedding they were meant to have. With their two gorgeous children and darling french bull dog (aptly named Cabo) in tow, Alchemy Fine Events helped these two design a wedding that was both fun and perfect as we head into this Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Here’s Vanessa Van Wieren of Alchemy Fine Events with a little scoop on the beautiful styling you can expect to see:

With inspirations of a Italian love story in mind, we created the vision of Terra e Mare, or Land and Sea for the Mike Larson Tuscany workshop. The story is this… a seaside beach beauty in love with a dapper polo player wed amidst the vineyards in Tuscany, bringing together the land and sea for a juxtaposition of styles.

Set against the backdrop of the rolling vineyards of Chianti in a Romanesque villa, Tenuta di San Giusto was the locale for this magical shoot designed with modern, classical, seaside and rustic elements.

The invitation to this intimate affair featured modern typography on a textured cardstock that was carefully nestled inside of a dove gray silk invitation box with a seashell adornment on top.

Two things immediately caught our attention when we came across Ren + John’s wedding: Ren’s jeweled Miu Miu’s and Lloyd Wright’s Wayfarer Church they married in. Both are architectural beauties. Of course after we jumped in, we were inspired by the Art Deco details in their invites & cake, bursts of color in each of the bridesmaid dresses, and the escort card installation by Alchemy Fine Events. Aside from the pretty details, we particularly like their love story.

Their invitations, designed by Alchemy Fine Events & Invitations were a great inclination of the splashy event to come. With a bold art deco inspired palette of b& w, they layered illustrations of butterflies and lined the black envelopes with a contrasting fuchsia.

R + J started off as high school sweethearts in Seattle. After high school, John got the unfortunate news that he had to move south, to San Diego. Years passed and they both went their separate ways seeing other people until one day, by pure happenstance, they ran into each other. They weren’t alone though. Each had their significant other at the time by their side. To our surprise nothing followed that casual hello until another few years later when Ren received a letter John had sent to her childhood home. As you can imagine, that letter was the beginning of how this wedding came to be.

Their escort card display looks like a little art installation, doesn’t it? We love it. Alchemy Fine Events created this statement piece by hanging bright colorful ribbon with plexiglass letters spelling out ‘Forever’.

Alchemy Fine Events chats about designing the reception: For the reception decor we wanted to create a colorful and striking atmosphere for their Hollywood studded guests who we knew were looking to have a good time! We started with a bold b&w striped linen at the base of each table then created custom Thai silk ikat table runners in a variety of colors to layer above. Sleek mirrored vases and cubes boasted tropical orchids and mini cala lilies in shades of ebony to orange to fuchsia. To keep it all fun, each table featured different color combinations of silk table runners and floral color palette.

Remember how we mentioned they had a chance encounter with each other years after their high school romance? Well… that letter John had sent to Ren, that’s it above. They had it blown up and on display on a big red plexiglass heart for all guests to read.

A few words from Ren: Really try and stick with the image you have for your wedding, and keep it as personal as possible. We had sooo many compliments on how the whole experience came off “so us”. We really wanted every single one of our guests to feel like they were there to celebrate and share in a fun, exciting and wild memory with us. I never could have done it without my dear friend Vanessa, who was more then open and willing to make some of my less than traditional ideas come alive! Make sure you are making this day everything the two of you want it to be despite what others may say. There’s ALWAYS going to be people who don’t agree with everything you want but it’s not about them so take the comments with a grain of salt and do what you want anyway!

Congrats Ren + John!

Event design extraordinaires, Alchemy Fine Events & Invitations, have been in the biz long enough to have clients trust them to design an entire event based from three small words. The three words their client (and birthday girl) gave them to go off for her 40th birthday bash: Love, Laughter & Smiles. They completely nailed it and there’s not a detail left untouched!

This was definitely the party for a lover of orange and of modern, clean contemporary design. Clean sleek lines, lots of chic white couches and ottomans, chevron textiles, and mixed glass and Lucite made for a modern yet eclectic feel that was still warm and inviting. Turning the young 4-0 has never looked so good!

Mid-century modern smoky and topaz stackable side tables were paired with rustic wood logs to create a visually interesting cluster upon which to layer vibrant orange and clean white arrangements of roses and orchids.

To keep in theme and design of the custom chevron pattern they created for the invitation, they printed fabric via Spoonflower to use for the throw pillows.

For an extra special touch, they created a VIP lounge complete with ‘bottle service’ boasting a luxury tequila tasting served out of an orange Hermes tray.

We don’t only want to recreate this party, we want to be guests at this party! What is there not to love about this! It screams Spring & Summer and hope it sparks some of those modern ideas you’ve been having. If you’re in love with a certain color for your event, just run with it!

Around here, we do our best to express how imaginative, creative, and artistic our featured vendors are (it’s the easiest job to do they’re so amazing). Other times, like maybe today, the photos say it all. We’re going to tell you how talented they are anyways! What we love most about this inspiration shoot is that the colors in the floral arrangements are both bold and soft, the tables are strong and earthy, while the seating is grand and delicately detailed. It’s all in the way Alchemy Fine Events & Invitations sees the world. In this case, their vision took them to a beautiful vineyard feast where a pair of cherub-esque brides longingly awaited for their loves to return.

Contrasting patterns of china and Florentine trays by Casa de Perrin were used to display vintage silverware, fresh loaves of bread and rich raspberry hued pomegranates. Inspired by a Renaissance still life, Isari Flower Studio created a trio of contrasting centerpieces featured in ethereal golden-footed glass.

For a Renaissance style dessert bar, home-style cakes and fruit tarts by Scootabaker were featured alongside buttercream cakes on silver cake plates and layered upon mirrored trays atop a vintage French table. Beautiful berries, pomegranates, pears and plums were scattered about to sweeten up this already scrumptious still life inspired presentation.

Why Alchemy Events & Invitations chose the a Renaissance theme:

Nothing exudes romance to me more than the ethereal age of the Renaissance. From it’s flowering of literature, science, art, religion and politics, this golden era flourished from every angle. Combining my passion for art, fashion, history and, of course, Italy, this age became proliferate with some of the greatest minds in our history. Starting in the 14th century in Florence, Tuscany, the Renaissance age boasted incredible works of art by Michelangelo, Donatello, Botticelli, da Vinci and great thinkers such as Dante. With inspirations from this indelible age, the 4th installment of our Art History for Brides series was born.
