Winter multicultural wedding: Mollika + Philip

October 11, 2016

Cakies, if you know any couples marrying two cultures along with I Do, you MUST send M + P’s day their way. They pulled off an Indian ceremony, Christian ceremony, and combined reception for 200+ guests without sacrificing a single tradition that was important to them + their fams. So yeah, pretty impressive! Mollika sent over a ton of deets on how to go about such a task, so we made sure to sprinkle ’em throughout all the photos by Jenn Emerling of YEAH! weddings below. Listen up!

First of all, dress #1? She took a major risk in ordering this LOVER two piece online (her tip: call and ask all the fit questions first!). Guess who lucked out with a perfect dress?

Mollika says, As much as this “your” day, it is also a day for your parents and all of your loved ones to share in your joy and happiness. In the Indian culture, a wedding is not just about the bride + groom but about the marriage of two families. While it is going to be difficult to let go of what you truly want, it’s important to consider the needs of your loved ones.

For the bridesmaids’ looks, she worked with her artist pal Joan Hsia to create a custom design that could be worn for both ceremonies (which she had made in India!), and could style the Kashmiri shawls differently for the two looks.

A versatile color palette: dark burgundy, midnight blue, sage green, and mustard with accents of red + gold for the Indian ceremony. PS: Tats are from Victorias Aviary on Etsy!

On the venue…  Since it was an entire day-long affair, we had to serve our guests breakfast, lunch and dinner—which is a lot to ask for from one venue. When we found Oak Canyon Ranch and they said they could accommodate our needs, it was an understatement! Denise and Wil were extremely helpful, so thoughtful and incredibly flexible. Even during the most stressful phases of our planning, Denise would always turn to me and say, “This is your day; you should have what you want. If this is what you want, we’ll find a way to make it work!” They were both a God-send to say the least and we the wedding would not have come together without them!

The reception was designed around the theme “a walk among nature” so they had lots of greenery and wood touches, and nods to national parks throughout. So fitting since their first date was a hike!

Romantic Indian wedding VENDOR

These two found lots of their wedding team in our vendor guide! Be sure to peruse the mega list of credits below to see who was involved.

We started out with lofty dreams of getting married in a warehouse in Downtown, but it became abundantly clear (after months of trying, endless tears and threats of eloping) that it wasn’t going to happen for us. Our vision simply wasn’t aligned with our parent’s vision and we wanted to make sure everyone felt comfortable and happy with the venue.  So we thought if we can’t get married in a warehouse we want to be surrounded by nature and started looking for our venue through a whole new lens. Once we found Oak Canyon Ranch, the real planning could begin. Luckily, I have been a big fan of 100 Layer Cake, so I had a slew of pins, vendors and inspiration I could rely on for the actual planning process.

As for the gorgy bouquet from Vave Studios… It’s got eucalyptus, burgundy flowers, garden roses, gold accents, craspedia, golden kans grass, dried lotus root (dipped in gold), amaranth, and more.
