Los Angeles friends, have you been to an event at Hudson Loft yet? It’s so light and open, not to mention has a sweet rooftop that’s perfect for all sorts of celebrations (add wedding ceremony to the list!). Grant + Katherine’s first DTLA apartment had a similar vibe with a minimal design + high ceilings + lots of history. Sooo basically, the day was one big nod to their own history, too… Thanks to Jen of Birds of a Feather for sharing the photos!

They danced their first dance to Amsterdam by Gregory Alan Isakov.
On finding a photog… There is nothing worse than forced poses—especially when your husband hates standing for photos. I wanted natural, candid moments that really captured the emotion and the beauty of a wedding and the work I saw from Birds of a Feather was exactly that. I also really clicked with Jen. Although she was my photographer, she really was also a guide to me during some of the planning. Her photography was the second thing I booked after the venue and it really helped me set the tone for everything else. She’s amazing!
As far as fitting everything in their budget, they whipped up lots of DIY projects, used a family videographer + bartenders, cut the cocktail hour (they opted for pre-ceremony photos + a first look so guests wouldn’t have to wait to celebrate), and made sure to prioritize their musts.
They didn’t have a theme per se, but Katherine was inspired by the pops of color in this wedding we featured and the décor in this 1920s wedding. Love when couples are inspired by 100LC!
Can’t sign off without a few fave moments, can we?
Katherine: I blacked out a little during the ceremony. I was so excited and happy that I stopped listening to my dad (the officiant) and said “I DO” before I was supposed to. I interrupted him with a loud “I DO” and everyone started laughing. My father officiated because he is a priest. I told him he could either walk me down the aisle or officiate, not both… he chose to officiate. Because of that I had my mom and her father both walk me down the aisle. It was a very special ceremony for me. As a second memorable moment—yelling out the lyrics to Sweet Caroline with all my friends on the dance floor. It was the very last song and the end of the night and everyone was jumping up and down together. It was the perfect end.
Grant: The first moment we were alone after we got married. When we were in the hallway waiting to walk in as Man and Wife, hiding from everyone, and sneaking looks at our friends and family from behind the door.
