Classic South Carolina spring wedding: Olivia + Blake

June 30, 2016
Charleston South Carolina wedding Rad + In Love knows just how to capture the most joyful moments, huh? As a wedding photographer in Charleston, Olivia knew she didn’t want to get married in a place she’d already shot at. 6 months into her + designer and illustrator Blake’s engagement, they came across the newly renovated Gadsden House, which even had a beautiful, bright room for all 130 guests to gather in for the ceremony. Being right in the city, they get to pass it often and think back on all these moments:

Olivia’s friend Lily of Flowershop whipped up these sweet flower crowns, and her bouquet of ranunculus, hellebores, white majolica spray rose, astrantia chocolate scabiosa, spirea, jasmine, and olive.

On walking into the ceremony… The second Blake walked in, I heard the loudest screams and cheers—our friends and family were all so excited, the rowdiness level in that room was off the charts! When it was time for my dad and I to enter the room, we were greeted with the happiest sea of faces, crying and smiling and cheering, and it was the most overwhelming and exhilarating moment of my life! That room felt like it was about to burst from all the love and joy.

Blake designed all the paper goods and illustrations and Olivia created all the escort cards with Lily’s 130 dried posies.

Olivia says, When I envisioned our wedding in my head, I saw the happiest, most golden, glowing and magical evening—pure fun and joy with all the people we love the most. We served rosé champagne before the ceremony to start the celebration. A gypsy jazz quartet played on the porch during cocktail hour as everyone mingled/crushed margaritas as the golden hour light streamed in. As the sun set we sat down to candlelit tables for a big Italian family-style feast—starting with charcuterie boards and ending with three different handmade pastas.

We were engaged for more than a year, so we were able to plan everything at a slow and steady pace. It was a blast—I loved every minute of it. My advice would be to enjoy it! The anticipation is so exciting, and it’s especially sweet to share with friends and family. (I think our parents and sisters were as excited as we were.) It’s such a happy and fleeting time.

Cheers!
