Hilary + Mike knew they’d one day have a destination wedding even before they were engaged—the idea of a vacay with friends + fam was just too good. They’ve got a relaxed Californian style with Napa vibes and mixed it in with the tropical beauty that is Sayulita for their design. California + Mexico? We are so very on board. You know we’re crazy for that bougainvillea. Hilary says, Our floral design incorporated a lot of Bougainvillea as it reminds me of my late mother’s garden. Including her however possible was considered heavily during the planning process. There was a reading from our favorite book when I was growing up, The Secret Garden, and Mike and my father wore cufflinks with vintage maps of Alcatraz, a place my mom spent many of her last days as the landscape designer for their historic garden restoration.
Their friend sang Ho Hey as Hilary walked down the aisle, as that’s the song Mike proposed with (see his cute proposal video). Their other friend (who actually introduced them) officiated.
Yup, the bride surprised her groom with a dwarf horse just like Lil Sebastian from Parks & Recreation.
Nothing goes better with bougainvillea details than vibrant centerpieces, for sure.

I could go on and on, talking about our insane “Joint Bach Boat Bash” the day before our wedding, or our incredible San Francisco Chinatown wedding banquet for those who weren’t able to come to Mexico. Instead I’ll just leave you with the simple fact that although we were lucky enough to host all of these wedding celebrations, Mike and I feel most lucky to have found each other at that crowded holiday party four years ago.
