Whimsical Korakia Pensione wedding: Michael + Scott

For their big day, Michael + Scott used color and design in all the best ways. Just like many a design enthusiast (M is an architect)—they knew Palm Springs would be the place to show it off. That’s how their mix of geometric shapes + handcrafted elements came together all the way from NYC, plus about a zillion other rad details. Shoutout to Matthew William + Beau & Arrow Events for letting us all in on the action!

This invitation suite is srsly incredible. The color story: teal, magenta, and craft paper.

About the venue… The size and layout were perfect. It was big enough that it offered multiple “venues” within the venue so that our ceremony, reception and cocktail party each had their own discrete space. Yet it was intimate enough that our guests occupied the entire hotel. Also the property is perfectly situated to take full advantage of the mountain and desert landscape. The fanciful architecture captured the spirit of Palm Springs and provided a photogenic backdrop without us having to create a design from the ground up.

Our research into geometric imagery lead us to explore Islamic and North African symbolism. Iconic symbols like the “eye” became integral to our concept, appearing on paper elements in our invitation suite through to the escort card display the day of the wedding. Not only was this symbolic history rich and meaningful, but it also created a surprising organic connection between our modern geometric design scheme and our Moroccan-inspired venue. Furthermore, our amazing wedding planners were also inspired by these images, and introduced us to the work of relevant contemporary artists like Grady McFerrin which provided even more visual inspiration for the event.

Most importantly, though, we wanted our wedding to feel like us: to strike a balance between casual and thoughtful, seemingly effortless but with a subtle attention to detail. The planners really helped us to achieve a feeling of effortless chic that we could never have done on our own! See more on their Pinterest.
