Honeymoon in Greece, part 1

July 16, 2015

Hey Cakies! Amanda here, recapping my Greece trip last month. Ahh, Greece. Where do I even start. Imagine the most beautiful of views, mixed with deep blue water, interesting landscapes, vibrant people, fresh from-the-sea food, all wrapped up into one memorable once-in-a-lifetime experience. As I’m writing this, I can’t even believe we were there, seeing all of this first-hand. We stayed at some pretty crazy amazing Mr and Mrs Smith hotels, starting with the Amanzoe in East Peloponnese.

The main reason we decided to start our trip in this area was to see this particular hotel in all its glory. And we were not disappointed. Nope, not one smidge. The hotel is located in a giant olive grove so it feels quiet, intimate and a place you will want to linger for a long time. It boasts Doric columns, sweeping reflecting pools, and so much marble that you will wonder if they stole the world’s supply. Don’t even get me started on the service here. We felt like royalty here, without a doubt. Honeymooners, if you’re looking for a place to relax and be enlightened, this is your hotel.

This below was our suite, people. And that is only one of our porches! Our typical day consisted of breakfast overlooking the Aegean Sea, then meandering around the lavender-scented paths, some pool time of course, and back to our room to read, do some more relaxing and pretend that this is our Greek home where we have come to live out our days.

We came to relax but you can also hang out at their Beach Club, or take a speedboat to the quaint islands of Spetses or Hydra if you’re looking for a little adventure.

Three days in paradise and then we were off to Athens. Our itinerary was primarily to visit the Acropolis and what we found was so much more. Even with a fragile economy, the city seemed vibrant and the people exude so much pride and love for their country. The adventurous part of our trip started here, navigating through this bustling, rough-around-the-edges city. At first the grittiness wasn’t my favorite part, but as we explored the pockets and crannies, I sort of fell in love with it all, in a way.

A brightly colored, modern building with views of the Parthenon and Acropolis from the rooftop bar.. a nice way to wind down the day.

And yea, this was only the first part of our trip. Much, much more to come tomorrow and Monday, so stay tuned!
