Wedding planners and designers have a tough job. Sometimes we honestly don’t know how they come up with the ideas that they do, but they continue to amaze us, and we love it. GATHER Events had the pleasure and challenge of helping to plan a wedding that pulled from Amy’s interest in astrology and her Thai heritage, and John’s obsession with space and nature. When all was said and done, it was an eclectic, but perfectly unified look and feel that Amy + John’s closest friends and family had a hand in creating. And who better to capture it all than, Rad + In Love!

Their wedding invites had an astrological chart card that indicated the exact time of the ceremony.

It’s nice to have friends that are crazy talented. Jessica Pezalla of Bramble Workshop converted a brass flea market find into this vibrant ceremony backdrop using bright colored panels of handmade paper.

My mother and her sisters from Thailand all contributed materials to the Thai water ceremony, which is a major part of most Thai weddings. They brought the water blessed by monks all the way from a temple in Thailand. My mother had a traditional Thai outfit made for both me and John in Bangkok.

Friend and fine artist, Alexa Gerrity hand painted the gold rocks that were used as escort cards.

The table runners were hand drawn with simple gold lined borders. Such a simple DIY to add a pretty little hint of color, no?

A little background on their special day… We just had this vague idea of the day being filled with garlands and flowers and lots of great food spilling out everywhere like a pagan feast you see in some cheesy classical/historical drama (although perhaps less cheesy). We wanted a sense of otherworldliness – to reference the natural surroundings without pretending to be authentically “rustic” – so the fabricated prisms in neon colors hanging from the trees and the gold rocks added this science fictional aesthetic to the environment. We also did without a lot of the traditional aspects of weddings. Instead of creating an aisle that people walk down one by one, we decided to march from opposite sides of the park with our respective families, and come together at the same time. And instead of a father giving away the bride to the groom, I walked with both parents and John walked with his sister as a symbolic way of joining old family and new on both sides.

So beautiful. Congratulations Amy + John!
