The 1920s, speakeasy styled weddings are one of our favorites. The fashion, hairstyles, typography, music… it’s such a fab era to play around with. We always love to see how the couple dressed up, and if the guests followed suit. And judging by that handsome duo up there we can already tell they did the era justice. They also had the best of both worlds because they actually eloped two months prior. An intimate day for themselves followed by this sparkly celebration with friends, captured by Chris Spira Photography? It’s the perfect way to go. Click here to jump over to the entire gallery of images! Speakeasy themed Brooklyn wedding | photo by Chris Spira Photography | 100 Layer Cake

Kate dressed up her Anyi Lu slingbacks with vintage 1920′s shoe clips that she found on Etsy.

We wanted to create an atmosphere that was not too serious and tradition based, but still felt like a wedding. We kept it more casual by doing family style dinner, dessert trucks, having cocktails before getting into the “serious” stuff. Also the decor was not too precious. The idea was for it to look “lived in” and encourage interaction. It was also an incredibly diverse international group. We had people from many different countries which added to the dynamic.

Love how they used tea-stained music sheets as their table runner. Such an inexpensive idea!

Rightfully so, they splashed their cash on two of the things that were most important to them, the amazing, Carte Blanche from Elan Artists, their DJ, Justin from Mister Saturday Sound, and good food.

We actually eloped two months prior, so weren’t planning to have a real ceremony at our July wedding. The morning of, Andries and I decided we really should do something symbolic for our friends and family…we sat at a diner in Brooklyn and started throwing around some ideas of what we could do/say. It turned into us MCing our post-cocktail hour very unconventional ceremony…it was light and fun, yet heartfelt and emotional. Our good friend David acted as officiant, and added some humor and beautiful insight. It ended up being a 30 minutes long….very unexpected, but one of the highlights of the night for us.

Such a fun soiree. Congratulations you guys!
