When we heard about wedding planner Kimmie + her guy Scott’s story, we knew you’d all want to take a peek. They were 6 months away from their wedding, with venue Rancho Las Lomas and most vendors locked down (including her wedding dress!) when they found out they were expecting their first baby. But instead of changing plans, planning a wedding with baby in mind made every detail so much more meaningful and focused. There are SO many sweet notes from our bride along with the gorgeous photos Kami Olavarria shared, so be sure to scroll through for more!

PS: After reading, head over to our insta where we’re sharing a little video from Kimmie, featuring baby Hudson!

Kimmie tells it, For me there was a moment when I thought, let’s hold off and get married after the baby and just hope I can get all of our vendors on board. It was actually my husband that said, “You can pull this off, we can pull this off.” And there really isn’t any part of me that regrets it. I was so able to focus on the important things like incorporating our family into the wedding, and making sure my vows were perfect. I also had to take care of myself. As a planner I have seen brides just get so stressed a few weeks out just because they feel that is how they should be. It doesn’t have to be that way, a few weeks out things should really be put in your planner’s hands. You should just make sure you are healthy, and energized and ready to enjoy your day. Being pregnant forced me to slow down and just know everything was going to be just how it was supposed to be.

Knowing the importance of having a wedding planner on board, they enlisted Green Apple Event Co to help them pull it all off.

So you want to know all about the dress, right?! Kimmie had actually purchased her Grace Loves Lace gown before finding out she was pregnant, and it was set to be delivered that summer. There was definitely a panic moment, but she knew that her gown was made of stretch lace, and might actually be perfect for her baby bump! She risked it and, even though almost 6 months pregnant on the big day, it fit flawlessly AND was totally comfortable.

Rancho Las Lomas is such a large property, I loved spreading our wedding out and the way that it flowed. We started at the top of the property (La Terraza), had our cocktail hour in the middle (Grand Salon) and our reception at the lower level of the property (El Teatro). This way our guests got to see three different parts of the property and I really felt like the reception had this “wow” factor because people hadn’t seen that part of the venue yet. We also had an after party in the Grand Salon that was really fun and ended up being all of our close friends partying until midnight, since music needs to be off outside by 10pm.

Creating a color palette that complemented the venue made it easy to keep things cohesive, especially since Rancho Las Lomas has a lot in bloom along the property. They went with this navy hue accented with bougainvillea pink throughout.

Kimmie also wanted to make sure the centerpieces had a ton of texture, so Craft Blooms incorporated lots of greenery in each arrangement.

I am a wedding planner, and I thought I had a good idea of what to expect on my wedding day. I always tell brides not to sweat the small stuff, but when I was in it during the planning process I did. Then the day came, and it went by SO fast and of course there are little things that happen that may be out of your control, but you have control of how you respond and that is a beautiful thing. I think that getting pregnant (by surprise) ended up being the biggest blessing for me because I really did enjoy our wedding and had to stay relaxed. It is so true that “the wedding is one day, the marriage is for life”.

K + S decided to incorporate their baby’s gender reveal into their rehearsal dinner, so their closest friends and family got to experience this special moment the night before. You can see a few super duper sweet snaps from that day over on Kami’s blog.

Kimmie’s top 3 budget savers:
1. DIY. Seating chart, place card tiles, and ceremony decor were made by the bride + maid of honor.
2. Aisle Planner. Even their free tools can be super helpful in planning!
3. Venue that doesn’t require a lot of extras. With a 65K budget, there wouldn’t have been a lot of room to book Rancho Las Lomas *and* incorporate a ton of details and decor. But what they loved about the venue was that it was pretty much complete! So if your venue takes a large part of your wedding budget, make sure it’s one that checks the boxes as far as decor too.

Such a sweet story. All the best to you, Kimmie and Scott!
