Vintage industrial wedding in Calgary: Brett + Holly

Winter wedding ideas

Anyone out there planning a wedding with a vintage industrial vibe? During their two-year engagement, Holly collected antiques and Brett restored their wedding car, a 1960 Chevy Bel Air, and everything in these photos by Gillian Stevens was inspired by her love of old buildings + vintage décor and his love of classic cars. Combine their vintage pieces with the industrial space at The Commons in Calgary, and we’ve got ourselves quite the stunning theme…

Instead of a bouquet, Holly wore her flowers on her dress!

Holly explains, It was very important to me to have a unique/heritage venue that represented my passion for buildings and design, and in Calgary, that can be very hard to find. We had a hard time originally finding a venue that screamed, “I’m an abandoned old warehouse, throw a party in me!” and then had some real bad luck when our original venue pulled out on us at the last minute. We were lucky to find The Commons, and it checked all our boxes for a great heritage building in a cool neighborhood with plenty of parking for all the vintage cars that would be there on the big day. After the wedding, we felt like The Commons was the right place all along!

They actually didn’t intentionally choose green + white as their official wedding colors, but it turned out to be a pretty big theme throughout.

As far as wedding music, the bride walked down the aisle to You and Me by Penny & The Quarters and their first dance was to Heart of Gold by Neil Young. See more details in our gallery below:

A few last words from Holly… We had a two-year engagement, so I tried to pace myself and spread planning out over time. I’m a crazy neurotic person who’s used to seeing everything drafted in AutoCAD, so I had the entire thing drawn out down to the flowers on the table, which for me, helped me visualize the final product. I definitely changed my mind on some aspects as time passed, such as eventually having a “real” ceremony with family present, or certain aspects of the overall look, but the majority of the planning was done early and then it was just a matter of finding people to help execute my big ideas!. The biggest tip I can suggest is to know what the two of you want out of your wedding day, and to not let people discourage you from doing it.

Cheers!
