Fall entertaining at home

Hello, hello! We’re sooo looking forward to all the intimate dinners that fall brings, so we were pretty excited when Psalm of Love Looks Like Photography sent over these warm ‘n cozy shots of a dinner PNW based floral designer Teressa Johnson Studio whipped up in her beautiful home. Teressa had some lovely words to say about entertaining and running her floral design business from home:

Given that Teressa works from home, the two really wanted to show a peek into the dwelling of an entrepreneur in floral design working from home. As any creative working from home knows, you’ve gotta have that inspiring space.

Teressa says, People are intimidated by perfection. Intimidated by and averse to, as it somehow prioritizes that which doesn’t exist. Therefore, my biggest entertaining tip is to welcome people by showing them the authentic parts of life. This makes them feel like warming up. It makes them feel like being real. It brings all the richness of community and relationship to the forefront of the event and the ambiance only enhances that. It should be thoughtful, detailed, and in a very graceful way, slightly undone, or wrinkled, or broken up bread with crumbs…

And her tips for creating floral designs at home are…
1. Make friends with neighbors—they always appreciate a good compliment, and it turns into a great way to meet people, and lends to the garden treasures that we all love.
2. Keep your eyes on the roadside and clippers in the car. If you’re not sure if it will work, do trials for longevity.
3. Work barefoot, turn on music, don’t be intimidated.
4. When creating the form with foliage, keep the centers open to allow for the additional blooms.
5. Arrange foliage first, to create a form, then fill in with the juicier blooms, then the smaller gems in clusters, similar to how they grow naturally.
