Modern Downtown Atlanta wedding: Yvonne + Clifton

February 8, 2016
Gold paper crane ceremony backdrop,

Yvonne + Cliff are the kinda pair you want in your friend group. They always know the best spots in town for a good cocktail, they love trying new things, and they know how to throw a killer party of their own. In fact, their whole wedding had a glitzy New Years feel, where all 35 guests dressed in sequins and sparkles in their honor and they kissed at midnight (after a sparkler sendoff naturally!).

Doesn’t that all sound so fun? They enlisted Janel Elise Events for planning + design, and Y’s talented friend Colleen of 2nd Truth Photography documented it all.

Modern downtown Atlanta wedding venue

This space has a pretty spectacular backstory: We had actually decided on another venue when we went to this new art gallery + bar just down the street from us called Studio No. 7 for their opening party. I instantly fell in love with the exposed brick, modern lighting, and open courtyard, not to mention the cocktails! There was space for every part of our ceremony and reception without it feeling crowded. We found the manager right away and asked what it would take to make it our venue. We went so often before the wedding that one of the owners got ordained and became our officiant!

Yvonne + Cliff’s methods for sticking to their 15k budget: 1) Restricting the guest list to family and close friends, 2) Lots of candles instead of florals, with greenery as accents, 2) Using Etsy + local vendors for great pieces without the brand name price, 3) Candleholders and geometric accents they could reuse in their home.

Y says, The most memorable to me was seeing how everyone chose to fit in our dress code of cocktail attire in our wedding colors (black, white, & metallics). I loved all the sequins and shine! Since we didn’t have a wedding party, the dress code made it feel like everyone was a part of it. We also had all of our married guests bring wedding photos to display so we could be reminded of the great examples surrounding us.
