At home California fall wedding: Becca + Nate
Becca + Nate adore the fall. When they got engaged in February it was decided that the wedding would be 8 months later, so they could throw an intimate fall party captured by their close friends at The Why We Love. Time was running out to find a venue, but none of them clicked…. Here’s the scoop from Becca:
We looked at many locations but none of them clicked. Something or many things just didn’t feel right about each one. October was fast approaching and we’d recently moved into a small, cute house with a large, ugly dirt backyard. I remember crying on the phone to my best friend and bridesmaid Megann Imdieke about how if I only had more time I could get grass in the yard and plant flowers and have the wedding there! My parents got married in their backyard and I always loved the idea. I said it joking but her encouragement made me know we could do it! Two months of hard labor and with tons of help from my dad we made our own perfect wedding venue by first leveling the lot, seeding it, watering it by hand twice a day, mowing and planting wildflowers. We even got our house painted for the special day! So not only did we have a beautiful and personal venue, but one that was a worthwhile investment for our future!
Becca wore a form-fitting lace dress with a cap sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, and a sheer back with lace and satin buttons. Her seafoam Badgley Mischkas were heavenly, too:
A pink fall bouquet recipe of peonies, ranunculus, poppies, and flannel.
They saved for their European honeymoon whenever possible: they used an iPod for music instead of a DJ, limited the guest list, had a backyard wedding, Becca’s mom made the cake, Nate’s sister made the flower girl dresses, their friends performed music as a wedding gift, their friend and florist used flowers from the market + fall foliage, and their favors were DIY. Becca’s advice? Make a list of priorities and stay true to yourself! So great.
Becca walked down the aisle to Ben Harper’s Forever performed by close friend Leigh Golden and their first dance was Adventures in Your Own Backyard by Patrick Watson.
Congratulations, Becca + Nate!
