Romantic garden rose bouquet

It is such a treat to share today’s wedding with you. We practically feel like family now after having shared Naomi + Rachel’s engagement session, Naomi’s stunning bridal sesh and now their wedding, beautifully photographed by Jen Huang. A few hurdles, 15 months of planning, and one large u-haul later (to haul everything but the tables into the Houston Zoo), an elegant  blush, ivory, and gray celebration took place. Guests dined parallel to a reflection pool with dramatic waterfalls and oak trees, vows included excerpts from The Velveteen Rabbit & Everything is Illuminated – their day was truly memorable and every bit gorgeous.

For each of their 80 guests, Naomi spent months handcrafting clay plates with a lace pattern and displayed them at each place setting atop mini gray easel stands.

Being that Rachel is a geologist, they decided to have a little fun with their guest book. Guests were asked to sign gray rocks (also tying into their palette) and drop in a vase. For the longer messages that wouldn’t fit on rocks they also set up a photo book.

And of course, many congratulations to Naomi + Rachel!

vintage quilted dress

Ohh these two are a fun bunch. They had a caravan of pedicabs take their entire bridal party from the ceremony to the reception, had guests sit on blankets and picnic during their ceremony, gifted custom designed beer pints and vintage plates to guests, and finished the day off with a Seattle staple – Top Pot donuts. On top of that, Andrea sewed napkins, Tyson built the branch chandelier at their reception, and they sourced their food and flowers locally in an effort to keep their party as green as possible. We can only imagine how much fun One Love Photo had following these two lovebirds around.

In the midst of all the last minute details, I actually elected to not carry a bridal bouquet. To me, it was a detail that didn’t seem critical. The afternoon before the wedding my matron of honor caught wind of this and simply wouldn’t have it. She zipped down to Pike Place Market, picked up 4-5 random seasonal flower bouquets and arranged an incredible bouquet for me as well as corresponding mini bouquets for the bridesmaids. It was magic. Dahlias and Chrysanthemums in various colors as well as a few branches for texture.

The tunes: Andrea walked down the aisle to ‘Harvest Moon’ by Neil Young, they both exited the ceremony to ‘Golden’ by My Morning Jacket, and their first dance was to ‘Into The Mystic’ by Van Morrison.

Finding a dress was difficult for me because I wanted something really unique but I didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars. In the end, the quilted dress I found at Belltown Bride was the perfect hybrid of classic with a twist of odd. My experience was similar to when I go shopping for vintage clothing where so often a dress looks terrible on the hanger but if you just give it a chance, and try it on, it comes to life. The quilted dress was nothing short of bizarre on the hanger. When I put it on I smiled in delight.

Fun little fact from One Love Photo – they loved the above image of their doughnut bar so much that they painted a 30×30 canvas inspired from it and now have it hanging in their dining room!

industrial Brooklyn wedding

A beer garden in Greenpoint, Brooklyn turned reception area, a crew of talented friends lending a hand, and as Brooke of Brookelyn Photography points out, quite possibly the most epic photobooth backdrop ever (it’s massive we tell ya). It all came together to make for one rad wedding. And when we say they had a crew of talented friends contributing, they really did. Jess will explain exactly how in a sec, but wow, this was definitely a labor of love.

From Jess: Let other people share responsibility and involve your friends as much as possible– our friend and designer, Chris Taylor, made a lot of the choices about flowers and decorations. It felt good to trust other people to make decisions. Our friend Lauren offered to make our wedding cake– not only was it beautiful and incredibly delicious, it was unforgettable, and meant so much more because we knew who baked it and how much work it was. Our friend Dan played mandolin during the ceremony and we would never have found our venue without our friend Ryan, who tended bar there. We enlisted our friend Nicole as our event coordinator– she kept us on schedule and sane. Our friend Tyler got ordained and performed the ceremony, and I can’t overstate how incredible it was to have someone we love stand up with us and make everything official. When we remember the wedding, we remember all of these people– and the whole wedding party hanging pennant flags– which is exactly the way we want to remember it.

Congratulations J + J!
