The wedding dress hunt

Categories   Wedding Fashion

Hi everyone! Thought I’d pop in again with some more wedding details. I FINALLY found my dress! It was a long process and I think I tried on about 30 dresses, no joke. I can’t complain though, I had a fabulous time shimmying into glamorous gown after gown…surrounded by tulle, delicate fabrics, beading, sequins, rhinestones, poufs of pink, and even tried on the daring black wedding dress.

My search started at Monique Lhuiller (of course). I scurried up there with some of my best gals to try on their embellished fairy tale-like gowns. Their store is gorgeous (but no photos allowed inside, aye!) and is where I first felt the excitement of putting on a wedding gown and strutting around for my friends to ooo and ahh. Quite an exhilarating experience, I must say.

Vera Wang was next on the list..I love her construction and the fabric choices were just delicious, plus they serve champagne to your party in lovely crystal flutes. I also popped by Saks in Beverly Hills to see what that experience might be like. Um, wow. Once I stepped off the elevator to the bridal floor, I felt like I was in a dress heaven. The space was glowing, serene, and had a glamorously retro vibe to it. The dresses were displayed in perfect groupings all over the spacious store. And the nice lady who assisted us had been doing so for what seemed like 40 years.

A few weeks later, I flew to NYC to visit one of my ‘maids and decided to take advantage of the NY wedding dress scene. Trips to Gabriella Bridal and Mark Ingram were in store. Both were lovely, but seemed a bit smaller than the LA stores I had visited. At Mark Ingram, they interview you about the type of dress you’re looking for, and then they go and find dresses in the back for you that fit that criteria…you don’t really get to browse dresses on your own, which is great if you know exactly what you want, not so great if you don’t. I *almost* bought a Peter Langner dress there.

Mon Amie was also on my list. I’d always heard about it, so decided to make the trek to their Costa Mesa store.. great selection, knowledgable staff. But my search ended at The White Dress in Corona del Mar. It’s not huge, but the selection was exquisite. And Brielle, who assisted me, was quite helpful and insightful. The staff told me they ask brides what their favorite wedding blog is, and 100 Layer Cake is always their top pick.. so fun to hear! I can’t wait to show you the dress I picked!

Stay tuned for more wedding tidbits. Right now I’m in the midst of searching for the perfect stole/capelet/shrug. I’m thinking I might want something feathery or sequin-y. Any suggestions on where to look?

Got my dress @ Mon Amie in Costa Mesa. They have a discount department at the front of the store with hundreds of designer dresses that are samples. I got a REEM ACRA dress in heavy satin and beautiful embroidery and beading. Some of the beads were missing and they completely redid all of the beads in just three days as I was leavin on a jet plane to go home. I was really impressed with the construction of the dress because it had a built in full puffy crinoline and completely lined inner "squeeze dress" that zipped up to make you look nice and thin! It also keep any sweat from getting on the satin. My dress was $4200 originally. And come on, who has that kind of money for a dress to be worn for one day?? So because it was in the outlet, it was half price! That's right, $2100 bucks and I'm walking out with a REEM. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be wearing a dress from a maker that I had only seen on the Academy Awards! The lady there was so helpful and they let you pick out what you want to try on YOURSELF and try it on YOURSELF!! I hated the other stores that wouldn't even let you take the dress off the hanger, browse the selection, or zip up your own dress. Mon Amie was a little gift from heaven in making my wedding fit my budget without compromising high end style!!

I tried on dresses with my mom at The White Dress and had a horrible experience. Although I had an appointment, no one assisted me and my mom basically dressed me. We got zero attention. It was such a bummer. So I'm glad to hear you had a totally different experience and mine may have just been a fluke. On another note, loving all the dresses you tried on and can't see what you picked! Congrats on finding THE dress :)

If you're looking for awesome shrugs, capelets and the such, I would check out Pronovias (of course yall know all about them since you went to Spain to check out their new stuff!) I'm a bridal consultant at a bridal salon and we have several of their stuff that is to die for! Anyway, totally recommend them :)

That dress with the sequin detailing is fabulous! I got my dress at Glamour Closet in SF during one of their crazy $499, $999, $1499 sales. It was insane, but I found a Rosa Clara dress for $499 that I LOVE. I had originally planned on spending a lot more on my dress, but now we have extra $$ to spend on booze for the wedding! I have looked at some of the Pronovias shrugs and they are gorgeous! But none of them went with my dress. I just ordered this marabou shrug on sale from Nordstroms: It gets delivered and I can't wait to try it on. If it doesn't work out, the bridal shop where I'm getting my dress altered makes custom shrugs, so I may end up going that route.

Gorgeous! Would you mind telling me the name of the "pretty in pink" dress? Is it the Ivy and Aster "Duchess" dress because it looks a lot like it!

What is that gorgeous dress at Lovely Bridal? That is my dream dress. Oh my gosh. Please share, if you remember?

What i don't understood is actually how you're not actually much more well-liked than you may be now. You are so intelligent. You realize thus significantly relating to this subject, produced me personally consider it from so many varied angles. Its like men and women aren't fascinated unless it’s one thing to do with Lady gaga! Your own stuffs excellent. Always maintain it up!
