100 Layer Cake

Our Labor Of Love is going to help us start the week off right with the charming and woodsy wedding of Terry, a photographer and videographer, and Jessica, a budding photo stylist, crafter, and style blogger. They’re crazy about the outdoors and the handmade, so fusing the two was an obvious choice when inviting 100 close friends and fam to the historic, Old Fort Jackson, nestled in a sleepy Southern town in Savannah, Georgia. Their theme was a perfect balance of soft and rugged – rundown barracks, fire pits, with fabric flowers, acorns, burlap, mason jars, and other DIY elements – all in a soothing color palette of pale pinks, mustard yellows, grays, and browns.

The gals all picked out their own dresses (some vintage some not) in a shade of mustard yellow, and pulled their looks together by wearing gray tights and pink velvet ribbon belts.

Jessica found her dream dress in Atlanta during a vintage buying trip for $30! It was a 1950s pale pink prom dress with silver detail and fit like a glove. Her adorable shoes and beaded belt came from BHLDN and her hair piece was made by the lovely talented Twigs and Honey.

Another money saver – Jessica’s father built the arbor they married under out of reclaimed wood and vintage wrought iron trim.

The music:

Our talented close friends, Lovely Locks covered songs like “Dream a Little Dream of Me” by The Mamas and the Papas, “Lets Get Rich, You and I” by Ingrid Michaelson, and “Falling Slowly” by Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova while guests arrived. I walked down the isle to them performing “All I want is you, hold me n your arms and sway me like the sea” by Barry Louis Polisar.

Get this – they didn’t use any live floral arrangements. All the flowers seen above were handmade out of fabric and paper. This also included Jessica’s bouquet made out of silk handmade flowers, vintage millinery leaves, and antique brooches. Even the fellas wore boutonnieres made of felted acorns and vintage millinery details.

We chose to do our first dance before dinner started and had our friend Bob Jones perform our first dance, singing “In an Aeroplane over the sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel. The rest of the night our DJ blasted tunes from all eras, tying in our love for the music of the past.
