Love pairing brights with neutrals for any occasion. Fashion, decor, and wedding planning, of course.

We’re so honored to share Stella & Ming’s intimate, dream-like wedding today. There’s something truly special about a desert wedding – the stillness, sandy hues, endless sky. When we got to chatting with Stella about her dreamy wedding and found out that she described herself as the anti-bride at the beginning of her planning, we would have never believed it. It’s rare to find a bride that’s so low-stress and trusts that things will just fall into place, but it all did, perfectly.

Staying true to the stress-free feeling of the wedding, Stella chose to stay natural with hair & makeup. She did want to point out that she dabbed a bit of Tarte’s Blushing Bride Cheek Stain for a hint of color though (thanks for the tip!). There was no entourage here – just the help of owners Steve & Scott with event planner Holly (who made the wreath headpiece you’ll see Stella wearing after the ceremony). Stella paired her J.Crew dress with a veil made by her mother, earrings made by herself, and a half-circlet hairpiece of paper orange blossoms made by Jude Miller.

Officiated by her mother, the ceremony began with Stella walking down the sandy aisle with her father to Figaro’s Wedding March.

Stella describes why they chose Joshua Tree as their location: “There is just something magical about the desert – the sense of loneliness evoked by the strange rocks and trees and wildflowers growing out of a seemingly barren field feels very romantic to me”.

This wedding clearly felt like a dream and hope it reminds you that sometimes a desert landscape and your husband-to-be can be all the romance you need. Congrats Stella & Ming!

Love love rose gold as an alternative to platinum or regular old yellow gold for engagement rings and wedding bands. It has such a pretty, vintage feel… though it seems to be making a very modern comeback as of late. Here are some lovelies we’ve spotted whilst internet window shopping in the last few weeks.

rose gold rings

1. Suzanne Kalan rose gold smokey quartz diamond ring – $2,650
2. Gabriela Artigas 14K rose gold rope band – $140
3. Barney’s New York Zoe ring – $5,400
4. Barney’s New York Marroni ring – $4,895
5. Katrina LaPenne Old World Ring – $900
6. Tiffany Bezet Round – $1,350
7. Zoe Chicco hammered stack ring set – $308
8. Zoe Chicco tiny pave diamond ring - $616

9. White sapphire diamond ring – $1,422.92
10. White sapphire diamond ring – $850
11. Conflict-free diamond solitaire – $2,345
12. Rose gold diamond ring – $545.00
13. Rose cut diamond ring – $250
14. Ocean blue aquamarine gemstone cushion in recycled 14K rose gold $570
15. Hand-scuplted roses – $570
16. Eidel Precious full eternity diamond band – $1,054.02

You know what else looks amazing in rose gold? PINK DIAMONDS. Srsly. Nevermind that they’re extraordinarily rare and expensive. Girls need to dream.

We love it when a wedding comes in that just screams “cool”, and today’s is that, plus more. Ivette & Ben were kind enough to share a bunch of little details from their wedding and we’re so excited to be able to pass them on to yous.

Poster-sized invitations – yes! What a brilliant way to announce that your friends and family are about to attend the best wedding they’ve ever attended. The budget for their invitations was $800. To save some cash, dear friend, Satoko Furuta, designed them and had them printed on poster-size chipboard.

Ivette and a few friends baked Mexican wedding cookies and packaged them up as cute favors (the sweet little box on the left, above). More and more we’re seeing brides and their families bake their own sweets. We love the idea, the bonding experience it creates and of course, the money it saves! Ingredients are inexpensive, plus you can easily purchase goodie bags and decorate them however you’d like. Uline and PaperMart are great places to start.

And flowers from Flora Grubb are nearly all a girl needs to make her wedding pretty perfect. They’re so so good.

If you’re ever visiting San Francisco you must stop at Dynamo Donuts. With a plethora of flavors to choose from (ginger orange, banana de leche, bacon maple apple + more!), Ivette & Ben opted out of the traditional cake and saved a few hundred dollars going with a donut bar. The upside – guests got to choose their tasty treats. Well played!

The Headlands Center for the Arts could not have been a more perfect venue. Find a great venue like this and decorating easily slims down because you have such a great space to start off with. Simple Christmas lights borrowed from family saved Ivette & Ben $400 bucks.

The key to throwing such an event and saving money in the process? Having crafty and creative friends! Or at least friends who are willing to give free labor for your projects. Thank you Kate for sharing such a great wedding and Ivette for sharing such helpful deets.
