Modern yellow and grey wedding: Kristina + Alan

Categories   Real Weddings

We spotted this pretty, unique wedding on Michèle M. Waite’s blog last week and thought you all might enjoy a little something different.

Kristina and Alan created a wedding celebration that didn’t separate the ceremony from the reception. They integrated their marriage ceremony into their celebration because their philosophy is that the marriage IS the celebration. Refreshingly lovely sentiment, no?

Oh, and did you see their outfits? Awesome.

They were married at Alan’s family property in Bellingham where they invited their family and friends to participate throughout the celebration… Alan’s cousin was the mistress of ceremonies, because she’s so vibrant and welcoming, their siblings were the officiants, and Kristina’s brother played the cello. They invited friends to play the guitar and sing. Kristina’s mom gave the dinner blessing and Alan’s parents gave the final toast of the evening.

On top of all of that, they had their guests write advice on cards during the cocktail hour and then later in the celebration used the advice in both their vows and in impromptu toasts when they asked the advice giver to elaborate on stage.

And in a final ceremony, they had everyone gather at the pond to light candles for those who had departed, especially important to Kristina whose father passed away in 2002.

So pretty and thoughtful and unique. Thanks so much for sharing the details of your day with us, Kristina and Alan!

Very personal and beautiful. I love the way they acknowledged the people they would have wanted to be with them but had passed on - they were certainly there in spirit.

Love this! Love their outfits and love everything they incorporated. I wish there was a vidoe to better understand how the different elements were incorporated and how the evening flowed. Great ideas to tie into more traditional weddings.

What a beautiful wedding! Does anyone know the name of the yellow pom-like flowers in the bride's bouquet? I've been trying to find them for ages!

I'm sitting at my desk crying. What a lovely thought to have the candles at the end of the night. The whole thing is gorgeous.

The bride looks radiantly happy and even more adorable. With her funky take on a classic bob and the yellow floral theme, we can't help but feel a bit of a 50's nuance here, and we love it!

I love the yellow flowers, what kind is that?

Beth on Jul 13, 2010

I love the yellow, it's so cheery and fun which is exactly what this wedding seemed like. I love the idea of the guests giving the couple advice as well as the beautiful ceremony to those who've departed.

What a wonderful wedding! I love how they incorporated the ceremony into the reception/celebration -- awesome idea! -- and they way they acknowledged the bride's father (sorry for your loss, by the way) and others that have departed in such a beautiful and special way.
