Guest blogger: Head vs Heart, groom style

Categories   Wedding Fashion

I am so excited to be here for the week on one of my favorite wedding blogs! This week I’ll be sharing a little but about where I am in my stage of wedding planning and the things that are inspiring me right now.

To give you a little background information, Brian and I have been engaged for almost a year and a half so far, and we’ll be getting married this July at Battery Gardens here in New York City. That means we have just a little over five months left to go, and there is plenty to do.

One of the things we’re trying to figure out right now is what Brian and the Groomsmen will be wearing. I should mention that the bridesmaids attire has been figured out for a while. They’ll be wearing Jenny Yoo’s Phoebe in Navy. And they’ll each be wearing their own, brightly colored shoes. So we need to pick out something that will complement them.

Neither one of us would consider ourselves fashionistas by any means, but we also don’t want to go the traditional black tux, colored vest and tie route either. Our wedding is a daytime ceremony so we want it to be a little less formal, and we’re not all that traditional anyway. So we’ve both been scouring the web to get ideas. Here’s a few examples of what we’re liking right now.

What will your grooms be wearing?

Who are those wedding dresses by? They are gorgeous!

Have you tracked down the source of these outfits? I'm loving the 3-piece and vest-only looks but have had trouble finding many options beyond the J. Crew standby.

The Tie Bar is an AWESOME resource for sassy men's ties. I bought my Dad's and groom's tie here..they even have skinny ties.

My groom and I feel much the same as the two of you. D looooves his charcoal grey 3 piece suit so that's his wedding get up! He's wearing a blue shirt w/ a blue/grey striped tie and his vest. Since we too will be having a daytime July wedding outside, he's skipping the jacket in an effort to be more cool and comfortable. We have men and women on both sides of the bridal line (my brothers on my side, his sister on his) so we've decided to distinguish who's with whom. His men will wear the same blue shirt as D with ta grey tie with blue accents and his sister will wear a blue dress. My girls will wear grey (also with their own 'poppy' colored shoes and bouquets) while my brothers are wearing complementary grey shirts along with blue ties with grey accents. Everybody's unique (different ties and different dresses), it's obvious who's with whom, and everything looks great together. =)

I love the first photograph of the blue plaid ties, does anyone know where they are from? or somewhere I could find them!

i love the vest and sneaker look in the second photo. i think that above everything, you have to pick something you are comfy in. and that makes you feel handsome/pretty.

I love the bridesmaid dresses you chose, that navy is stunning, such a dark shade! The guys in the grey suits above looking excellent, the black and white bow tie wedding was so awesome, she had a complimenting black and white sash around her dress if i'm not mistaken, loved that!

We are having an outdoor fall wedding and feel the exact same way about keeping it casual. We would love for the groomsmen to wear grey suits, but we can't find an affordable option for them... I would love to know if anyone has some ideas. I've only seen the options on J Crew like someone else mentioned.

We are having an outdoor fall wedding in CA and we will be going for the vest-only look but with light colored/linen trouser pants and light color or tweed vests. The FI wants no tie and we'll see. I find that the Nordstrom Racks in my area have a great selection of men's suits for a great price plus they do alterations. For Nor Cal Brides, the Nordstrom Rack in San Leandro has a HUGE men's selection. I plan on making the hour drive.

we are also trying to find a lighter colored vest option. I've been having trouble, and even J.Crew only has one real vest offering right now. I would love to hear other suggestions for warmer weather vest/suits!

I am having the same problem with my groomsmen. I have searching high and low for suit separates in navy. I want them to just wear the vests, we are having a casual outdoor wedding in August and I love the look of just vests. Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks so much for the comments everyone! Unfortunately I don't know where most of the specific outfits are from. We have been searching high and low for affordable gray or navy options and it's definitely tough. Mens Wearhouse has a couple of things that we found as possibilities. They have one gray tux rental option, though I'm not thrilled with it because the color is pretty light. The better option though is to take advangtage of their buy 1 get one half off sales. It's going on pretty much constantly, and if you can find $400 suits, then everyone gets a brand new suit for only $200. The other good thing about that is that they have locations all over the U.S. Another sort of random option is Express. I never would have thought to look there but they have a couple of gray suit options. The separates come to about $300 so it's not super cheap, but it's less expensive than a designer or custom suit. If you have any other questions feel free to email me also. I'd love to trade ideas!

@julia i hope we get to see pictures of your wedding! the colors and your ideas sound so great! @suzanne thanks for the tie bar resource, that looks like a really good one @adriana thanks for the compliments on the bridesmaids dresses! i like it so much i want to buy one for myself. :-) @bri and ashley:I haven't really started looking for separates too much, but if you find anything I'd love to hear about it.

Gray is my favourite colour (call me boring... I don't care. It's lovely). So my fiance is wearing a charming gray suit, and the groomsmen are going a bit more casual for our garden party wedding this July with gray pants and dress shirts. I can't wait to see them!
