Morgan + Dan’s DIY invites and surprise marching band

categories DIY Wedding, Pretty Paper, Real Weddings

How cute is this wedding? Our friend Morgan (who is a designer at Hallmark) and her husband Dan tied the knot in a bright, fun wedding celebration, complete with a marching band!

Morgan designed the invites herself (you know, because of her designerness), and had them letterpressed in Kansas City by Cody Langford of It’s Fancy. She used rounded corner punches and a perforation roller from the scrapbooking store Archiver’s, and had a custom embosser made by Paper Source to tie everything together.

The band was Morgan’s surprise to Dan. She called up his favorite local band, The Marching Cobras, and hired them to come marching down the street as she and Dan walked out of the church. Don’t you love her maids all lined up in hot pink behind the band? And that guy has some serious style.

Thanks for sharing with everyone, Morgan!

  1. That is so cool-Marching bands and weddings are just meant to be together!!!! And what a rocking surprise!

  2. Those invites are amazing and I love how simple they are. The letterpress is such a nice touch. I bet someone could even get the letterpress background done yet print the invite information on their own computer—a way to save money somehow? The colors are so vibrant and makes me think of a killer mix drink with a fun umbrella sticking out the top. As for the marching band, I’ve never seen that before and I’m very impressed! Very good idea for someone who loves them as much as her husband does. I know I do, at parades and college games that’s one of the top reasons I attend :)

  3. How in the world do I get my own marching band? That is so awesome.

  4. Did the Polaroids serve as guest book? How cute!

  5. Hi there-it’s Morgan, I just wanted to answer–yes, I did use the polaroids as my guest book! I asked two friends to snap shots of everyone as they came in-then guests signed their names and any additional comments below their photo. I later put them in a book using photo corners! I absolutely love having photos of every single guest!

  6. Wow! The marching band is VERY cool! I love the colors on the invites!

  7. Adore your wedding! Can you please tell me which perforate tool and corner rounder you bought? Having problem finding good ones!!! :)

  8. Here is the rounded corder cutter that I used:

…and, for some reason, i cannot find the perforation tool online anywhere–it was a handheld tool that was on a roller (similar to a pizza cutter). If I can find it at home, I will write in with the brand name.

  9. What papers were used? The pink maybe looks like Neenah Eames Furniture? Not sure though… looking at that in purple and green for my own wedding! Loving those chocolate envelopes – would love to know where they are from too!

  10. how sweet! i especially love that black and white image! tyler is a fabulous photojournalist! – katrina

  11. In answer to the paper. It is Esse textured Pink 80# cover if I remember correctly. The off white is Neenah Environments Natural White 120# cover. Morgan found the chocolate paper and I trimmed it to size. She scored and folded it into the folios. Morgan created excellent designs! I am glad she chose me (It’s Fancy) to print them for her.

  12. Actually, Cody, I don’t mean to say you’re wrong :), but just in this one little case-Modern Ink Studio is correct–that pink paper was indeed Neenah Eames Furniture!! I loved it! I would highly recommend using it :)
The brown paper was some sort of Canson paper, I believe and then Cody mentioned what the off-white papers were.

I did design the envelope myself and cut and trimmed it to that shape–this was WAY more work than necessary and since then, I have discovered this great company that sells all kinds of shapes, sizes and colors of this type of folder. Check them out (this will save you lots of time–I really wish I knew about this): http://www.envelopments.com/

    hope this helps :)
and thank you to all of your for the sweet words!

  13. I love the marching cobras!

  14. I love the marching cobras! I was working a wedding last night that the cobras came to. I am getting married in Sept and I was wondering how you got ahold of them to perform at your wedding? Also, if you don’t mind me asking how much they cost? That may detour from me even pursuing the whole idea. Thank you in advance for your help.

  15. I love your wedding pics. We had the Cobras perform at our Wedding in July 2009 and they were AWESOME! Just go to http://www.marchingcobras.com and you will get instructions on how to book. Some of our pics are on their website.

  16. This just looks like a FUN wedding! Love it.
